Ripple Deflects Automatic Gunfire

The distance between herself and her opponent was roughly ten meters. She traced a wide arc as she circled around her opponent from the right. One step, two steps, three steps, but before she could take the fourth step, she heard a click. It had come from beneath her feet. Ripple froze.

The assault rifle’s muzzle spurted a tongue of flame. Yet, Ripple could not lift her foot off the ground, because the mine would explode if she did. While normal antipersonnel mines would not be able to harm a hair on a Magical Girl’s head, this was a magical landmine laid by Calamity Mary.

Now that one of Ripple’s feet was locked in place and she was deprived of her mobility, Calamity Mary cut loose with a fusillade of assault rifle fire.

Ripple drew a small blade from inside her sleeve. This was a half-length blade that was only about the length of a wakizashi. However, it ought to be easier to use for defending herself than a bigger blade. The two blades deflected all the bullets that flew over, and the assault rifle’s magazine ran dry before Ripple was fatally injured. No matter how Calamity Mary pulled the trigger, the only thing which came out of the gun was clicking, and not bullets.
