- Recipes for Disaster - Ep 34 - Smothered Pork with Gruyere Mashed Potatoes - twitch.tv/cyborgshadow & twitch.tv/themattabase
- Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup green onions
- 2 medium sweet onions
- 8 cloves garlic
- 2 lb pork chops
- 3 links smoked sausage
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 3 diced bell peppers
- 2 tsp blackening seasoning -- this stuff was hard to find, if you can't find it, make it this way: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/174668/blackened-seasoning-mix/
- 1 14oz can fire roasted tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 8 oz Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 4-6 idaho potatoes
- salt and pepper to taste
- Instructions:
- Smothered Pork:
- - Chop green onions and onions.
- - Cut pork and sausage into small bite-size pieces.
- - Preheat pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes with canola oil.
- - Add peppers, sausage, onions (not the green onions though), and garlic. Cook and stir for 3 minutes.
- - Add pork and blackened seasoning to sausage; Cook 3 minutes or until vegetables are softened.
- - Stir in tomatoes and cream. Cook 1–2 minutes or until sauce begins to thicken.
- - Reduce heat to low. Cook an additional 3–4 minutes or until sauce has thickened and pork is cooked.
- - Stir in green onions.
- - Serve.
- Gouda Mashed Potatoes:
- - Rinse potatoes.
- - Peel and cut potatoes.
- - Place potatoes in pot. Fill with cold water and place on stove on high heat.
- - Shred 8 oz gruyere cheese.
- - Add a little salt. Bring water to a boil. Cook an additional 10-15 minutes until potatoes are soft.
- - Strain water from potatoes and place back in bowl.
- - Add gruyere cheese, salt, and pepper; season to taste.
- - Mash potatoes until they're a nice fluffy consistency.
- - Serve.
