  1. Untold billions of years ago, when the galaxy had scarcely formed, primeval beings of immense power appeared, some who may be older than the universe itself. they traveled very far, between galaxies and clusters of galaxies. many settled into ours. with their immeasurable power, they shaped stars and worlds, but also came into conflict with one another. the echoes of their brutal battles can still be felt even today, and has shaped the galaxy itself. they are known as the Elohim.
  2. A great number of civilizations would rise and fall in the eons between that era and the modern age. other forms of metaphysical life existed as well, in dimensions that intersected with the physical plane.
  3. one of the most notable are known as the Shedim (sing: Shedu), nebulous beings often of frightening appearance. they often appear wherever sapient lifeforms exist, they are influential in the mythologies and religions of countless races, often portrayed as gods or demons, either worshipped or maligned. their activity is highly connected to oath and ritual, they are incapable of taking many actions without an act of binding from the sapient they are in contact with, but given the correct circumstances, they are capable of possessing the bodies of the living, laying waste to the physical world, and even reanimating the dead. there are many sapients who dabble in the art of summoning and communing with the Shedim, views of such individuals vary, in some they are shunned and reviled, in others they are highly respected members of their communities. travel to the realm of the Shedim is uncommon, but very possible, witnesses describe it as a strange, chaotic landscape, consisting of floating islands and cities in a massive colorful void. expeditions into the dimension have met with various results, with many refusing to return. It is most often traversed through a form of astral projection, but more "physical" methods are also available.
  4. The Malakim (sing:Malak) are a race of beings often described as angelic in appearance. Generally, they are far more mysterious and impersonal than the Shedim they ostensibly oppose, like the Shedim, they have appeared in the cultures of various races, often fitting within the "heavenly" archetype they so resemble. On a number of occasions, a Malakim has been known to seek out specific mortals, and assign them a task of seemingly great importance. additionally, they have the ability to "bless" sapients with a portion of their prodigious power. though often believed to represent the forces of good and evil, the divide between the two entities appears to be far more complex upon further investigation.
  5. One of the more ancient civilizations known are the Vuraan, known to have disappeared countless millennia prior, artifacts of their making have been found throughout known space. their appearance has been inferred from several badly preserved corpses, as well as art found in a number of ruins constructed by them. possessing a triangular head with three apparent eyes, they stood on three legs, with three arms on each side of the body that could flex in any direction, giving them unparalleled flexibility for their various tasks, it also seems evident that their race inherently possessed vast psionic power, as the majority of known artifacts and devices require psionic input in order to function. the cause of their extinction is currently unknown.
  6. Another fallen race are the Kryiuul, like the Vuraan, many of their creations can be found throughout known space. they were of a broadly avian appearance, possessing four arms and two legs. their natural appearance is not well known due to the fact that all known specimens possess heavy cybernetic modifications. though their original date of disappearance was postulated at 80,000 bc, it was later found that this represented a relict population of survivors that likely numbered at less than 1 million, it appears their civilization collapsed at large in 125,000 bc. the "relict" population had built a large structure located in the arctic circle, at the centerpiece of the structure was the "silver circlet" a device that siphoned the psionic energy from sapients present on the planet, the presence of this device seems to explain the lack of psionic ability among the majority of humans prior to 1938. in that year, an expedition to the arctic uncovered the ruins, ending with the interaction and deactivation of the Silver Circlet.
  7. The Kriyuul are known to have created the Viarin, a collection of biomechanoid entities often found within Kryiuul constructs. they possess a variety of forms and seem to have been produced for a myriad of tasks, such as mining, war, medical care, and construction. many of them possess sapience, though it is unknown if that was the intention of their creators.
