Correction to Daily Mail

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you in regards to the article published by your organization, written by Ed Holt and Will Stewart titled "British mercenary fighting for Ukraine after leaving the army is captured by Putin's forces in Kursk and paraded on camera".

The gentleman this article refers to is a member of Armed forces of Ukraine. Armed forces of Ukraine are the regular defence forces of Ukraine, controlled by the country's civilian government. He is therefore most certainly not a mercenary, mercenaries are not members of regular state armed forces, they operate under their own organizations. Therefore the use of the term mercenary in reference to this gentleman is highly inappropriate and totally incorrect. Look up the legal definition of the term.

Furthermore, I suggest your organization look into the backgrounds of the two authors. Their use of the term "mercenary" and the general tone of the article indicates that they have written the article under dictate from Russian security services. It would reflect really poorly on your publications if authors whose works you publish turned out to be under dictate and possibly paid by organizations working for foreign hostile dictatorial government, to top it off, one that keeps threatening with attacking Britain with nuclear weapons.

Kremlin propaganda has been pushing the term "mercenary" for non-Ukrainian volunteers in Ukrainian armed forces because the term carries a negative connotation. I am highly dismayed and disgusted that your organization follows the Kremlin line, not only because it is incorrect, inappropriate and insulting, but also because your use of this term supports the propaganda of a murderous genocidal regime, which has perpetrated several murders on British soil and has murdered British citizens.

I suggest you do better.
