Rokudou Chapter 145

Chapter Summary:

Rokudou remains in captivity and is being poured an expensive craft beer as he tries to refuse. The goons from Chromosome gang are lamenting having to cater to her like this when they really need her as a hostage, but they must obey Yashiya's orders as they continue to treat Touko (Rokudou) as a guest of honor. Rokudou thinks to himself that he needs to use this opportunity to gain some intel on the gang now that Yashiya is gone. He asks what their goals are for targeting Harikura High, but they get angry at him for speaking out of turn and tell him that it's none of (her) business. However, one of the other gang members tells him to cool his jets lest he invite the wrath of Yashiya for being abusive to Touko. He adjusts his tone as he refreshes her drink like a waiter, but he reaffirms that she is wasting her time trying to get info because no matter what else may be happening, she is a hostage.

Outside, Yashiya's partner in crime, Yagen, tries to convince her to move on because Touko is not connected to Aomori High and they aren't making any moves in response to her abduction. However, to his chagrin, Yashiya is daydreaming about Touko (Rokudou). The plan was to crush the leaders of these two schools so Rokudou would become the leader of both school as they fled to him for protection. Despite this, he suspects Yashiya is beginning to lose interest in Rokudou, throwing their entire work to waste. He suggests to Yashiya that maybe they should change their plans as the burden of managing their gang is getting cumbersome because of how large the number of members is becoming. However, Yashiya says she still must crush Harikura so Touko has no place to go but to her and only her.

Back inside, the gang is drunk and is now spilling all their secrets to Rokudou. He asks if Yashiya is the boss, but they affirm that Yagen is their true boss, and they only obey Yashiya because Yagen does. They explain that right now all the toughest gangs are coalescing into the Chromosome super gang in the wake of the power vacuum following Onishima's demise. The belief is that once Yashiya kicks Rokudou's ass, they will have dominion over the entire city without any real resistance. Rokudou realizes he must act because if this team of goons were to get loose to their own devices, it'd be a real problem for everyone. He asks why everyone is joining Chromosome in particular, and they say that despite Yashiya's power, it's really Yagen's influence that makes everyone join up. He was the former boss of Harikura. He was known as being a man among men; strong, charismatic, and inspirational. Turns out, he was the former leader of the school he's attacking. Rokudou begins to worry about the safety of his comrades. Reflecting on what it means to be a man, Rokudou breaks character, saying that a man should never betray his own, and that if Yagen thinks he can betray his own, he'll beat his ass. However, he didn't realize that Yagen was right over his shoulder. He says "Oh yeah? You're going to beat... MY ass? For a girl, you sure act a lot like a man. Your voice even sounded like a man's voice just now. " Yagen goes on to sit down and have a smoke, as he asks if he's truly a manly man. His underlings who admire him try to reaffirm how manly he is. However, he thinks to himself that he hates being praised for his 'masculinity' more than anything else, just as he hates being at the top, and hates being branded with the title of 'boss.'
