A day when he was Captain Arcturus of the Luna Wolves.
A warrior without peer! The great warrior-lodge of the Luna Wolves would echo with tales of his valor and prowess.
He, who slew one hundred men single-handedly in the pacification of Davin! He, who marched with Horus himself upon that planet’s moon!
Certainly, such a warrior would be renowned and feared throughout the galaxy, his name used to frighten Loyalist children at night, remembered through song and story!
But it is not.
It is said that Arcturus is, as his name implies, cursed.
He, who survives battle upon battle, never falling, always living to see another day.
Were his comrades to be so lucky.
The halls are quiet with his deeds, haunted by the moans of battle-brothers fallen in his service, under his guiding hand.
Battle-brothers far more worthy of survival than he.
The whispers began quietly, then grew louder and prouder than a storm.
A warrior who is cursed to lead his squad to certain death by their fifth engagement, only to survive himself to press onward.
A warrior burdened with the loss of his battle-brothers, the only family he has ever known.
For them, there are no tales of glory, no deeds remembered in song and story.
Except the one he sings only for himself.
So this forgotten, failed legend searches the warp, searching for a battle worth dying in.
To give him a death worthy of the battle-brothers who have died in his place.
So that he may count himself worthy of them.
