- After 2 hours of the movie, I wanted to review the movie as the best movie to be ever made, but as ending was near there was a minor fall in keeping glued to the seat. <br/><br/>But one thing for sure is no sci-fi movie with this much substance was ever created. Every minute of the movie is a climax which is commendable. Acting was par excellence. <br/><br/>As for the ending of the movie was quite blunt as the viewer is glued to every character of the movie and ending it abruptly.<br/><br/>My score for the movie is 8/10. - I am an experienced movie watcher with 50 years of film to go by. I like all genres of movies except maybe, the musical, but that stems from my childhood when I was 5-9 and my parents made me watch movies like pajama game and ruby, at the movie theater. The movie pajama game had a major them song, "Hernandos hideaway" I loved to be moved,touched by the humanity of film, but I must be able to follow what is going on. This brings me to Cloud atlas, what were they thinking, I could only make it through 1/3 of movie before I decided that it was a foolishly conceived, disjointed, bizarre movie made by a variety of buffoons and pretenders to making movie magic, they tried to produce something epic and it was tragically anything but that. I checked off the spoiler alert only to because I didn't want to slant somebody else's attempt at watching this. I dare anybody to say something that qualifies as a spoiler alert because that would mean they understood what they were watching and could explain it. I very rarely write review and I can't write one about this one , except to admit that I tried, and tried to make a go of it and couldn't . With all of the beautiful imagery and film artistry that went into the making of this film, alas, not even that could compel me to trudge , drearily through another minute of this film. Shame shame shame. When Denzel, Russel Crowe, Matt Damon etc are in films, it's an automatic I'm in but that used to apply to Tom Hanks as well, but that's done with
- Tykwer and the Wachowskis' other twist on this karmic hokum - to cast each of their actors in multiple roles across the stories, regardless of age or race - is less successful.
- Cloud Atlas is based on the 2004 multi-award winning novel by David Mitchell. It consists of six loosely interconnected stories: an 1850 diary of an ocean voyage across the Pacific; letters from a composer to his friend; a thriller about a murder at a nuclear power plant; a farce about a publisher in a nursing home; a rebellious clone in futuristic Korea; and the tale of a tribe living in post-apocalyptic Hawaii, far in the future. The author himself has indicated that the film will take the loose connections of the novel and expand them into the major theme of the film: "The reincarnation motif in the book is just a hinted-at linking device, but the script gives it centre stage to link the six worlds with characters, causes and effects." The film will also feature all the principal actors playing multiple roles of different ages, sexes and races. "A novel can't do multi-role acting: a film can," says Mitchell. "The directors are playing to the strengths of their medium, just like I try to." The novel was shortlisted for the 2004 Booker Prize, Nebula Award, Arthur C. Clarke Award, among many others. There are three pieces: (1) "Prelude: The Atlas March" by Tom Tykwer, Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek (from the film's soundtrack); (2) "Sonera" by Thomas Bergersen; and (3) "Outro" by M83.
