- How to use SRL Racing
- =====================
- SRL racing is done via IRC.
- It's outdated and bad, but still useful.
- Here's a step by step guide on how to use it.
- Using the embedded IRC on SRL is good enough for this
- Livesplit can manage races for you, but you still have to
- register via the SRL IRC beforehand.
- Once you do that, you can log into the IRC via Livesplit and
- do things like view the races, start a race, join a race etc.
- I don't personally use Livesplit so I can't offer more advice than that,
- but I've heard it's pretty easy to use and figure out.
- The rest of these steps after registration assume you're using the SRL IRC.
- ---------------------
- :: Steps ::
- ---------------------
- 1. Go here http://www.speedrunslive.com/channel/
- 2. Enter a username and a password.
- Don't worry if you're not registered, this is how you register.
- 3. You'll see this screen https://gyazo.com/aa284b879ec75e1873350e11b6b0a892
- 4. Pay attention to what you see
- If you see this...
- <NickServ>: This nickname is registered and protected. If it is your
- <NickServ>: nick, type /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password. Otherwise,
- <NickServ>: please choose a different nick.
- Then the name is already registered.
- Refresh the client and enter a new username that you want to use.
- If you see this...
- <NickServ>: Nick ____ isn't registered.
- Then your nickname is available and you can go ahead and register it.
- You do that by typing the following
- /nickserv register password e-mail
- Where password is the password you entered earlier and want to have for your account.
- and e-mail is a valid email address for password recovery.
- If you ever need to reset your password, type the following
- /nickserv resetpass nickname e-mail
- 5. Test to see if your nickname registration was successful.
- Give it a few minutes then go back into the client and login again.
- You should see this https://gyazo.com/471b4119c1d4a55707bd7e573b033d98
- That means you're now registered.
- The SRL widget should auto identify you and verify you, but if it doesn't, type this
- /nickserv identify password
- 6. Set your stream so SRL will show your Twitch stream when you're racing.
- Make sure you're in the #speedrunslive channel when typing this
- .setstream twitch/name
- 7. Now you're all set to join or start races.
- 8. If you're joining a race, in #speedrunslive, you can type
- /join #srl-<id> where id is something like yhlzw
- You can see a list of races and their IDs by typing .races in #speedrunslive
- Once you join a channel, you'll see that channel's IRC
- In the SRL widget, you can also join a channel by just clicking on the #srl<id> link.
- 9. Once you join a race, type .enter to enter the race.
- When you're ready to begin, type .ready.
- Once everyone is .ready, the countdown starts from 10.
- .unenter does what you expect it to do
- .unready will unready you (so the race can't start, but you'll still be entered).
- .entrants will show you all the current racers and their status.
- 10. If you need to quit for any reason, type .quit
- If you accidentally quit (idk how you do that), type .undone
- When you finish, type .done
- If you want to add a comment to your time, type .comment <message>
- 11. If starting a race, type .startrace <game>
- Where game is the abbreviation for the game you're racing
- You can find a games list including abbreviations here:
- If it's a new game not in the games list, type .startrace <new abbreviation>
- Please use an abbreviation that makes sense for the game.
- All of these commands for starting a race are done in the #speedrunslive channel
- 12. Once you've started a race, you can set a goal for the race
- .setgoal <goal>
- 13. Once a race finishes, if you feel like a salty raceback, you can rematch
- .rematch
- That should be all there is to it, but I recommend still reading up on the SRL
- Docs to refresh yourself and get a better idea of how it works.
