  1. The Nozlocke challenge is a self-made restricting challenge made to (hopefully) make playing Pokemon a more intense/enjoyable experience. Since this is self-restricting, all of the rules that I'm using I have decided on my own aside from a few standard rules, and some custom rules. I will using the following ruleset on my run:
  2.
  3. STANDARD RULES:
  4.
  5. * All Pokemon are under permadeath - If a Pokemon faints, they can no longer be used for the remainder of the run. They must either be released or placed into a designated PC box.
  6.
  7. * On each route, the first encounter is the only Pokemon that can be caught. If they faint, you can no longer catch a Pokemon on that route. There are a couple of custom exceptions, which will be listed below.
  8.
  9. * All decisions are final, no resetting will occur
  10.
  11. * A white-out is game over - The run ends
  12.
  13. * I will nickname all my Pokemon. I'll try to pick a theme but I'm really bad at nicknaming.
  14.
  15. CUSTOM RULES:
  16.
  17. * Starter Pokemon will be determined by the Trainer ID. If the last digit is 1, 4, or 7 will be Turtwig. 2, 5, or 8 will be Chimchar. 3, 6, or 9 will be Piplup. If the last digit is 0, I'll use the next digit. In the unlikely chance I get 00000, I may choose or just restart.
  18.
  19. * Held-items can freely be used in-game. EXP Share will be allowed because it splits EXP in gen 4
  20.
  21. * Usable items such as potions, full heals, etc. will be strictly limited. I'm probably going to go with matching what the other trainer uses (for gym battles and elite four). I'll ban using items for any other trainer battle. X-Items are banned because they can trivialize the game really easily
  22.
  23. * Healing items outside of battle are fair-game, as well as Pokemon centers. Limiting the use of items outside of Pokemon centers just increases tedium
  24.
  25. * Species Clause - I can ignore the above encounter rule if the encounter is a Pokemon of an evolution line I already have caught.
  26.
  27. * Shiny Clause - If I encounter a Shiny Pokemon, it can ignore the encounter rule. It'll still count as the first encounter, however
  28.
