  3. quick note: these headcanons apply to the fic; also, on my profile there's a folder of notes which you can read but id advise not to because there are spoilers.
  4.
  5. random pokemon headcanons I want to use in a fic just bc i use them while playing to comfort myself:
  6.
  7. - pokemon are composed of different elemental substances, known commonly as "types." for example, a fire type would mostly be composed of fire matter, but might have some normal type in it as well, allowing it to know other types of moves.
  8. - pokemon that gain a typing upon evolution have that substance before evolution, but it simply grows during the process enough to be classified as a "type" for the pokemon (i.e. charmeleon > charizard)
  9. - substances have different reactions when meeting other substances, which is mainly how type matchup works
  10. - attacks are expelling of this material, which is why a pokemon could be attacked and only pass out but still die of freezing weather that isn't caused by a pokemon.
  11. - this also means that a pokemon could survive a powerful attack but sustain damage if harmed by a man-made weapon, fall damage, etc.
  12. - humans also have this material, but their genetic makeup is completely different; they don't have types and can't use attacks, but they can survive effects of pokemon (a human could die in a house fire but survive a flamethrower attack from their pokemon)
  13. - female pokemon have more dominant DNA in breeding, which is why only *their* typing material is passed into the egg as opposed to a pokemon with mixed typing.
  14. - when pokemon faint, they explode to a natural state of the material existing without a shell (It appears as a glittery powder). if wild, it retreats back to a spawn point; caught pokemon automatically retreat to the ball to regenerate their shell
  15. - spawn points are on routes or other areas pokemon appear. they appear after a certain amount of wild pokemon have fainted in one area and allow for the pokemon to regenerate and appear again from anywhere to a few seconds to an hour later.
  16. - pokemon are typically in a pokeball for up to two hours if they explode. losing only health points will heal instantly once returned, and status conditions take about half an hour to heal, as they are damage to the shell.
  17. - spawn points typically appear as a crystal, though they can really be anything; for some species it may appear as a cloud in the sky and there's no limit to how many can exist in an area. different species can spawn from the same point.
  18. - eggs are actually quite small, as they are the material and energy concentrated. they crack when the given shell can no longer stop the atoms from moving, and the material forms its own shape.
  19. - pokemon like ditto, eevee, etc do have the typing makeup of any other pokemon, however they have more control and are able to change it at will.
  20. - pokemon like castform, rotom, shaymin, etc, have very sensitive makeup that causes their form to change easily
  21. - there have been experiments of trying to mix two pokemons' genetic makeup, but they will naturally repel each other and the experiment can potentially harm the pokemon
  22. - sizes listed in the pokedex are merely on average. there have been pikachu at two feet tall or only ten inches; things vary depending on the pokemon's own ancestors and lifestyle
  23. - pokemon can understand common language though their throats and other parts only allow them to make their cries; however pokemon are extremely intelligent and can pick up on context clues easily as well. some pokemon, such as chatot or meowth have been known to mimic human speech, but there's no exact replication known outside of psychic communication
  24. - when pokemon evolve, they need to concentrate on their genetic makeup changing, so it's hard to evolve i stressful or startling situations, which is why scaring your pokemon can put off evolution for a while. however, not all pokemon scare easily.
  25. - pokemon that can only live in a certain area (i.e. fish pokemon like goldeen) can create a cloak of water or whatever substance they need to allow them to battle out of their natural habitat; however, pokemon can only do this once they're caught, and some pokemon simply don't have the capabilities (such as magikarp)
  26.
  27. that's all I have for now I might add more later
