- —Backstory:
- Pyar, Wyar, Bryar, Cryar, and Lyar are kobold quintuplets born to a cult who worshiped the dragon deity, Tiamat. Their birth and colors were prophesied ages ago, as these were destined to become the champion avatars of Tiamat herself.
- The children grew up very disinterested in the strict teachings of their elders, much to their dismay and irritation. Pyar and Wyar were always getting into trouble, and Bryar and Cryar were always slacking off. Lyar was the only one who took the elders' teachings to heart.
- While Lyar studied, the other four would run off and cause all sorts of mischief together, growing bored of the small temple that they called their world. Finally, the day came when the five were going to perform a ritual to swear loyalty to Tiamat. The children all ran off the day before, unaware of the preparations being made. Lyar decided for the first time that she would join in on the fun with her siblings.
- The kids stumbled upon a decorated room with five baby dragons with colors that matched their own. They were intended as offerings to Tiamat, but the kids did not know that. Seeing the creatures for the first time, only one thought crossed their mind:
- Cage death matches!
- The kids released the dragonlings and watched them fight each other to the death. The kids loved every moment of it, even Lyar... until they started dying. Horrified, Lyar ran off, telling the elders everything that had happened. They all ran to the scene, seeing the four kids all around the lone, surviving black dragonling. The kids were all locked away, even Lyar. The ceremony was ruined.
- The kids all broke each other out while the elders discussed what to do with them. All of them agreed that this was their chance to finally escape and have normal lives, so they all ran away. Fed up with her telling on them, the kids left Lyar behind, alone. That was the last time she saw them.
- ---
- Pyar, Bryar, Wyar, and Cryar ran off into the world, quickly adapting to urban life. They put the magic they learned to use, stealing and scamming anyone and everyone. They were surprisingly good at it. They were finally free.
- Templar from their old home were sent after them, trying to bring them back home "safely." Between them, and getting in trouble with the locals, the kobolds fled many towns, flocking to the next one over, and starting all over again. Eventually, by either chance or destiny, they ended up in the city of Taves.

- Bryar never really cared for the lessons. Sure, he got that they were important and probably beneficial to him, but he figured that as long as either Wyar or Lyar knew the lessons then it would all be good. Instead Bryar took the route of least resistance and most benefit: he lied about the lessons. He’d try his best to ‘strengthen his connection to the dragon within’ by staring in the direction of a plant, daydreaming and claiming he was seeking enlightenment or some similar nonsense when questioned. Bryar tried to actively avoid a meeting once by painting himself to look like a sibling, but utterly failed to figure out the logistics of not letting people find out that there were two of the same Kobold existing simultaneously. Regardless, slacking off and finding ways to slack off and be an utter nuisance without being caught was far more fun then learning, so Bryar did his best to avoid learning and instead collect a variety of nickknacks. He’s still upset that he forgot the potted plant when he ran from home.
- Bryar can’t remember if it was him or Pyar who suggested the dragons fight, memory is a fickle thing like that. Regardless of who started it, Bryar dislikes what happened that day. The green dragon had died, which meant that Bryar had lost his side of the bet. It was truly a blessing that he and his siblings escaped, it meant that he wouldn’t have to pay Lyar back. Bryar is exhausted with all the traveling, but enjoys being in the city. It’s a source of perpetual entertainment in the form of people and has countless places to hide away in and people to trick. The more people around, the more Bryar can get them to do things for him after all.
