- [10:57] <CelestialDoggie> so Pilz
- [10:57] <CelestialDoggie> which classes in Anima aren't worth it?
- [10:58] <~Pilz> hmm
- [10:58] <~Pilz> lemme see here
- [10:58] <~Pilz> off the top of my head, Thief, Ranger, Freelancer
- [10:58] <CelestialDoggie> before I left, I had been planning on rolling a Paladin for Huge's game
- [10:58] <~Pilz> but then I'm planning on making a Ranger if my GM starts another game
- [10:58] <~Pilz> so
- [10:58] <~Pilz> Pallys are fine
- [10:58] <CelestialDoggie> ok
- [10:59] <~Pilz> use the rules for non-magic pallys unless you REALLY want the summon skill
- [10:59] <~Pilz> also, if you want a D&D pally, you may be better served by a warlock-class
- [10:59] <~Pilz> since thats the spellsword class
- [10:59] <~Pilz> Paladins get a +summon
- [10:59] <~Pilz> which can be used for invocations
- [10:59] <CelestialDoggie> yeah
- [10:59] <~Pilz> so you can always work with your GM to make them fluffy
- [11:00] <~Pilz> Dark Paladins get a +control
- [11:00] <~Pilz> which is a neat idea
- [11:00] <~Pilz> but...arguably not very useful
- [11:00] <~Pilz> it's very game-dependant
- [11:00] <CelestialDoggie> well, it's a moot point for now, but maybe at some future point
- [11:00] <~Pilz> yeah
- [11:00] <~Pilz> I'm just infodumping because bored
- [11:00] <CelestialDoggie> yep
- [11:01] <CelestialDoggie> I'm also a fan of the idea of the Acrobatic Warrior
- [11:01] <~Pilz> those are fuuuun
- [11:01] <~Pilz> that's how I made my nobleman duelist
- [11:02] <CelestialDoggie> yeah
- [11:02] <~Pilz> Fencing Rapier + Parrying Dagger
- [11:02] <CelestialDoggie> of course
- [11:02] <~Pilz> and then uh
- [11:02] <~Pilz> in D. Exxet
- [11:02] <~Pilz> there's a thing you can take that lets you make an additional block with your offhand
- [11:02] <~Pilz> instead of attacking with it
- [11:02] <~Pilz> and it works for dodge too
- [11:03] <~Pilz> so take that and then giggle as you take on 2 guys at once easy at level 1
- [11:03] <CelestialDoggie> that's awesome
- [11:03] <~Pilz> oh my god
- [11:03] <~Pilz> it's /x/-tan in pokemon
- [11:04] <~Pilz> dat Hex Maniac
- [11:04] <~Pilz> anyway
- [11:04] <~Pilz> yes it is awesome
- [11:04] <~Pilz> it's not expensive either
- [11:05] <~Pilz> it's like 20, 30 DP?
- [11:05] <~Pilz> totally worth it
- [11:05] <~Pilz> since it's practically +30 block/dodge
- [11:05] <~Pilz> which is 60 DP
- [11:06] <CelestialDoggie> yeah
- [11:07] <CelestialDoggie> awesome, adobe just crashed
- [11:07] <CelestialDoggie> (I only had like 9 PDFs open)
- [11:07] <~Pilz> heh
- [11:08] <CelestialDoggie> anyway
- [11:09] <CelestialDoggie> what's wrong with thief, then? Just completely ineffectual for fightans?
- [11:09] <~Pilz> Shadow is a better Thief in terms of fightan
- [11:09] <~Pilz> in terms of STEALING shit?
- [11:09] <~Pilz> Thief all the way
- [11:10] <~Pilz> Thief is an excellent skillmonkey
- [11:10] <~Pilz> and would be great in a dungeon crawl type game
- [11:10] <CelestialDoggie> ok
- [11:11] <~Pilz> also thief is sneakyer
- [11:11] <~Pilz> sneakier*
- [11:11] <~Pilz> the problem with Thief is that normally, Thief and Rogue are the same class
- [11:12] <~Pilz> this time they're split up into 3, Thief, Shadow and Assassin
- [11:12] <CelestialDoggie> I see
- [11:12] <~Pilz> this allows you to be damn good at sneaking, sneaky-fighting, or sneaky-spying
- [11:13] <~Pilz> ...but not all at once
- [11:13] <~Pilz> and if you're a sneaker in a game where you need to be sneaky-fighting
- [11:13] <~Pilz> you've got a problem
- [11:13] <~Pilz> potentially
- [11:14] <~Pilz> this is more if we're talking in terms of optimization than anything
- [11:14] <CelestialDoggie> right
- [11:14] <~Pilz> things like the rules for using hide/sneak in combat really help the thief and assassin in combat
- [11:15] <~Pilz> (once you have mastery in Hide, you can pretty reliably disappear from view mid-combat as long as there's stuff to hide behind)
- [11:15] <CelestialDoggie> nice
- [11:15] <CelestialDoggie> kind of "hide in plain sight"
- [11:15] <~Pilz> and then you sneak up behind them
- [11:15] <~Pilz> and BACKSTAB
- [11:15] <~Pilz> -170 nigga
- [11:16] <~Pilz> -170 to their block/dodge
- [11:16] <CelestialDoggie> awesome
- [11:16] <~Pilz> if they're unaware and you're behind them
- [11:16] <~Pilz> because they take blinded and from behind penalties
- [11:17] <~Pilz> also, note that you can use Acrobatics to outmanuver your opponent
- [11:17] <~Pilz> if you roll an acrobatics over their attack ability, you can get beside/behind them
- [11:17] <~Pilz> even if you're in 1-on-1 combat
- [11:17] <~Pilz> so again, they take a penalty
- [11:21] <CelestialDoggie> that's kind of awesome
