[Challenge] Under the Umbrella [F4M]

As the rain poured on the eve of a cold night in July, she stood there twirling her umbrella, occasionally stealing a glance at, and errantly checking the flight’s status. Her anxiety was readily apparent to those around her, her constant fidgeting and restlessness betrayed her seemingly calm demeanor, one could tell from a glance, that she was humming with anticipation. Despite her apparent unease she awaited patiently, without much complaint nor fuss, but as the seconds turned to minutes and the minutes turned to hours she began to tap her foot restlessly; incessantly and without pause, she bit her nails with quiet dread, her thoughts taking dark turns, the passage of time chipping away at her sanity, slowly but surely.

The sound of the arrival announcements broke her out of her trans, there she found herself enveloped in the arms of the man she loved, she embraced him with tears in her eyes, her fears now assuaged by the feelings of warmth assaulting her very core. She hugged him with such intensity that she felt him strain for breath.

“I was so worried, thank god nothing happened to you”
“When I saw that the flight was delayed I began to worry, why didn’t you tell me you had lost your luggage?”
“Oh, you forgot to charge your cellphone? That’s so irresponsible, you should know better”
“I am sorry, I am being a bit overbearing… Its just that I love you so much and I get worried and anxious sometimes, I can’t help it”

“Let’s go home, I’ve prepared dinner and Rover is waiting for us, you know how much he hates to be alone”
“Yeah, I bet he misses you more than me, you used to take him out on walks even more frequently than I did”
“He’s a good dog but sometimes I swear to god, he’s more than a handful”
As the door to the apartment swung open Rover lunged at his owners, wagging his tail with excitement and licking them profusely
“Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy? You’re a good boy, yes you are, yes you are”
“It’s gotten cold by now, but I made you that apple pie that you love oh so much, just like the way your mother used to make it, with my own special secret ingredient”
“Okay, alright, you got me, I added cinnamon and nutmeg, my addiction to Cinnabon has clearly put me at a disadvantage here”
“Honey you must be freezing and tired from traveling all day, why don’t you just get changed and get snug under the covers while I make us some hot cocoa, so we can be warm and cozy while we cuddle?”
“Oh sweetie, what’s this, I said I wanted us to get cozy, but you’re already pretty *stiff*”
 “Hey babe I know you’ll probably think I am being really sappy after all this cuddling, but I wrote this short poem while thinking of you”
“You want me to read it out loud? Well, this is embarrassing… but I can’t refuse you”
Oh my luminescent sun
My greatest gray of dawn
My twilight evening song
My mesmerizing muse
The brightest of my colorful hues
Your words rendered upon my flesh
Like the ocean waves, upon my heart they crash
Like the raging storm you take me
Like the gentle breeze you break me
I rest my faith upon your shoulders
My disordered being, you put to order
Claim my heart with a kiss
Seal my fate with a touch
Be my waking dream
Entwine the red strings that bind us
Lest we come apart at the seams
Castigate my darkened desires
