- Two things really struck me: One, It's so refreshing to play Souls-adjacent "dying world" game and that's so emphatically about resilience and hope. Finally, one of these that aspires to something more than "the best you can hope for is one more doomed cycle". I liked spending time with these characters, seeing how they grow and adapt to what happens around them while helping them out and building safe havens for them.
- Two, I wasn't expecting to get so many cathartic payoffs to lingering mysteries from Hollow Knight, and I wasn't expecting those payoffs to be more satisfying than whatever we imagined about the mysteries themselves. There are "holy shit, hell yeah" moments in this that are completely earned.
- Mechanically, I definitely found it harder than Hollow Knight, but in a mostly positive context. I enjoyed the increased struggle and being forced to learn boss patterns more thoroughly. I liked having to stay on my guard when out in the field, knowing that a slip in concentration could kill me, and having to think about my limited resources when deciding my next move. The increased friction and larger map was a test of endurance in a way that was ultimately very rewarding, and I'm looking forward to replaying it many more times.
- I have a lot more thoughts about it that I want to let percolate for a while. Astonishing game.
