With a tap on his control pad, Robotnik commanded his last remaining drone to scan deeper into the rock of the labyrinth. In minutes, the computer had calculated every turn, tunnel, and trap in the place. It would be slow going, and Robotnik would have to stoop to traveling on foot. But they’d get there alive if his companion could hold his dang horses for once.

It took hours. They pressed deeper and deeper into the muck and mold of the hot and humid labyrinth until, with a glowing super punch, Knuckles broke through a stone wall and into the structure’s main chamber. And as the dust settled, there it was amid the gloom. Floating in the middle of the grand cavern . . . the green Master Emerald!
