Shovel knight is a 2D platform from Yacht Club Games.
You are a knight who have to beat their enemies with a shovel and upgrade it and your armor. You can use your shovel as a pogo, or attack your enemies like if it was a sword. You also can upgrade Shovel Knight's health bar, increase the amount of magical spells he can use or talk to the people.
This all seems simple, at first, but as you progress, you'll find increasingly difficult challenges that will test your Platforming Skills.
Each boss has patterns that must be learned and, until you upgrade your health bar (using the jewels and coins you dig up or smash from blocks), every encounter is perilous.

Shovel Knight is pure nostalgia. His graphics are like a NES game (in fact, it is like a Mix between Ducktales, Megaman, or Super Mario). Every stage is challenging and smart, with no boring battles.
The game has many different backgrounds (stages in a castle, mountain, windy places, ice places, water places, lava..).
The music is amazing, you'll be hooked quickly into the game.
It has a lot of achievements (45), and if you are an achievement hunter, the game is replayable in order to get all of them (complete the game without dying, complete the game without spending any money, complete a stage without taking damage...). Completing all the achievements is a hard challenge.

I consider this game as a gem (in fact, it was awarded with the Indie Goty 2014 award).
