  18. Things that I find interesting: the fact that there are a handful of maniacs who want to kill me, a handful of idiots who want to extort me, another handful of maniacs who want to kill me, and this old lady named Katara that I stumbled across who recognized me, called me by my name, and explained to me that she knew me and I'd disappeared some sixty years prior. I mean, I expressed doubts on that, up to the point that she gave several details about who I was and what I did that settled any question of whether she was telling the truth. What it did raise, however, was HOW she could possibly be telling the truth about something I hadn't experienced. Unless I had amnesia, or something. Who knows?
  19.
  20. What I DO know is that she was rather perplexed when I turned out to have no ability to bend two elements, only being able to manipulate the earth. And not half as well as she remembered, either. Still, she took me home and I doted on the little old lady. She was nice, after all. A little bit of magic to deal with arthritis and the things that come with older age was not unwelcome, and I sort of just smiled and nodded a lot of the time.
  21.
  22. Oh, and she was training the next Avatar. Which meant remarkably little to me, but I was happy to help! Even if I couldn't help her train directly, I contributed, helped her with ideas on how to do things since she seemed to think in very... let's say two dimensional terms. And so I graduated from the occasional bit of advice to more... general... education. And drilling it into this girl's head that being the Avatar didn't mean she was automatically right, just that (from what I remembered) she was a conduit for potential power, and had responsibilities, even in a changing world.
  23.
  24. Taking on Korra's physical training helped her harden up a bit too.
  25.
  26. And when Toph found out that I was around, she came for me, called me crazy and slapped me, then kissed me. It was weird; having her explain a history between us that I hadn't experienced was more than awkward. And yet... well, so what if she was old, compared to this body? I'm almost seven thousand years old, for crying out loud, I don't get to throw stones. I will say she got a much better anti-aging treatment than Katara, though she declined the longevity vaccine. For the second time, she told me. But she knew everything about who I was - even my name. A name I'd not given anyone else. And... she accepted me for who I was. No doubts. The last person who even did that was Albus Dumbledore, and let's be frank, I don't think we were quite this close.
  27.
  28. In any event... honestly, most of what I did was a matter of knocking sense into Korra's head. Having a couple of years to do it in... it turned her from an arrogant child to a reasonably responsible, if occasionally haughty, teenager. She didn't almost accidentally an apocalypse, but she slapped the Equalists down, helped root out a conspiracy, and she didn't cause the Avatar chain to be broken during the Convergence.
  29.
  30. But that might have been due in part to esoteric fire support.
  31.
  32. (Did you know that the Killing Curse can be used on spirits, incidentally? Not the effect it has on mortals, no, but it has QUITE the effect nonetheless.)
  33.
  34. (...I don't want to let Toph go. She insisted that I let her pass when it was her time. Okay. That's her choice and I'll respect it. But... why is it that I have to be alone?)
