so I was showing an initiate the initiate app today
saw the elder program
and I was like
huh
I should get myself set up to do that in case I leave DI in future
so I look at the reqs (again)
one of these two
1) Black Cross
or 2) Veteran + 100 honor points from awards
Black Cross is unlikely unless GJ got a BJ and was whistling tiptoe through the tulips as he logged onto his computer before deciding to give about three commanders a black cross
So veteran and the honor points it is
I have veteran, my commander's signet gave me that
But the honor points are... a problem
I've been in DI for a year, right?
A little under eight and a half months of that have been spent in command
But if you look at my profile
All of my silver commendations were from before command
All but one of my bronze commendations are the same.
My community citations are all from when I was a commander, I campaigned for the idea when somebody got on my case about giving honor stars for honor star level community contribution because we had no equivalent for community contribution
I had HMOTM from before I became commander, actually it was from September 2017, the month when I was promoted to Vice
The point is, that's something like 45 honor points that I got in the months before becoming commander
As commander I've put in at least four times the work that I put in before being a commander
What reward have I gotten for it?
None.
I've gained something like eight honor points total during my time as a commander. Pretty sure that's two community citations, a star of valor 3rd class and a bronze commendation.
One comm citation and the bronze comm are from standardized REP awards, given to me by Bent and Plok respectively. The others come from division events.

Talking to Shade, he said that if I were to serve under literally any other house general, I would have a gold comm right now.
At 53 rep right now, that would put me one silver commendation away from hitting Elder.
I'd get that from a month where I get 175 rep, which I can get easily by attending events in the abundance of free time I'm going to have next month.
But instead I get subjected to Necht being cheaper with awards than my Scottish grandmother is with her purse at the grocery store, and I might get screwed out of Elder because of it.
I don't want my first gold commendation to come when I step down.

Necht took seven months to give four. That's barely over one every two months
Comparatively literally every sitting house general has at least one every month on average
shade with 1.5 per month, gamma with 3.3333 per month, OT with 1.2 per month
