  1. Signs of Life Character App
  2. Name: Melanie Sendall
  3. Potential roster: Legendary Golurk, Swampert, Rotom ([REDACTED] Form), Arcanine (Fire/Ground)
  4.
  5. 1. State your character's general concept, in terms of their intended playstyle and what it is that the're trying to accomplish.
  6.
  7. Playstyle/Build: Ground Type affiliated; largely dependent on 2.0. Possibly might end up as something similar to a witch hunter based on some overlaps with her occult knowledge and her knowledge as an undertaker, just not literally hunting witches.
  8. Concept: Melanie Sendall is a Saxtonian girl born to a family of undertakers. Through them, she learned how to prepare and inter the dead, as well as how to effectively plow through the ground. Unfortunately, an outbreak of disease took her family from her. Leveraging her rather unique skill set, she has joined up with the EGGs in pursuit of her primary fixation: to find a cure for mortality.
  9.
  10. 2. What's your character's home like? What made them stand out to be scouted as EGGs? Were they glad to be able to leave home to serve the League, or do they get homesick and have to come back every now and then?
  11.
  12. Her family hails from the city of Argleton, a quaint city that's not quite urban nor quite rural. The city hosts a number of graveyards, servicing surrounding towns and cities that may not have the land or geography to effectively look after their dead. Her family is well known throughout Argleton on account of being the longest lived line of hereditary undertakers, though they are by no means the only ones. Tragically, disease has ravaged the area, and those who tended to the infected were especially at risk. The city survived and recovered, due in part to the effective containment and self-quarantine imposed by those handling the sick and the dead, but it remains a dark mark in the city's history. During official clean up efforts towards the end of the epidemic, Melanie was discovered in a catacomb surrounded by the preserved bodies of her family members. Miraculously, she showed no signs of disease. She was more than willing to leave with government health officials to get checked out, though there did not seem to be anything extraordinary about her other than dumb luck. With her rather unusual skill set and knowledge, she was a perfect fit for the EGGs. Returning to Argleton gives her a lot of anxiety, and only once has she actually returned to her actual home, now uninhabited but preserved by an old groundskeeper that was a family friend.
  13.
  14. 3. What's the most important thing to your character that they've lost in their life? It could be a person, an opportunity, a philosophy, anything.
  15.
  16. Melanie always loved her family. Her scholarly grandfather who gave her lessons on a wide variety of topics, expanding her understanding of the world. Her grandmother who always knew how to cheer her up and nurtured an optimistic view of the world. Her mother and father who supported her in everything she did, even when she told them she wanted to take up something other than the family business. Her elder sister who was her best friend; she was funny and smart and kicked the ass of anyone who tried to bully Melanie. Her younger brother she protected and who in turn helped her recognize what she valued in the world. But it only took a matter of days to lose them all. Though she still has surviving aunts, uncles, and cousins, she was never that close to them and it hurts her too much to see them. Nevertheless, they wish her the best and she occasionally writes back and forth with them, staying informed of the biggest changes in their lives.
  17.
  18. 4. What legendary does your character have? The legal legendaries are most Trios, mascot characters, (ie Mew or Jirachi), and other more "minor" legendaries. If you're unsure if a legendary is legal, ask me. What Concept does this Pact Beast represent? (Legendaries will have a single Aura, which will have effects based on this Concept. Don't worry about confining them to the ones in Blessed and the Damned) In the process of bonding with this Conceptual Pact Beast, what kind of trial did they have to overcome? (Be creative. A test of character of some sort related to the Concept is preferable to a straight trial by combat.) Despite the previous oneshot, all the legendaries are still open for use, just make sure you fluff the legend differently and have them embody a different concept. Fakemon are okay, as are especially snowflakey variants of non-legends.
  19.
  20. Legendary Golurk: Vltava, the Eternal Compulsion
  21. Concept: Obsession
  22. Trial: Single-Minded Focus

  24.
  25. 5. What does your character hate? If they don't truly hate anything, why? Can they stay calm around it? What does your character find most satisfying to do? Do they have any hobbies?
  26.
  27. Melanie absolutely despises mortality. And as an extension of that, she hates seeing someone throw away their life whatever the reason. If feasible, she will press her help upon them, regardless of their desires. As an extension of her loathing of death, she is hesitant to establish friendships with her fellow EGGs. Despite this, her insistence on protecting them has made connections virtually unavoidable. She rather enjoys building sand castles, but given how rare it is that she encounters a suitable beach, she has pioneered the design of the dirt castle and has taught her methods to many children, to the chagrin of their parents.
  28.
  29. 6. How did your character bond with their first Pact Beast? Do they still use that Pact Beast, or was the Pact dissolved? Did that relationship mean anything for that character?
  30.
  31. When any member of their family became of age, they were bound to their very first Pact Beast: a young member of the Cubone species. The Pact Beasts had been with the family so long that they even featured prominently on their coat of arms. The Beasts aided in the construction of tombs and honoring the dead. They were respected and treated just like any other member of the family, and when their kind passed, they were revered all the same. Unfortunately, they were also susceptible to the very same epidemic that took Melanie's family. Her own companion held out until the end, helping her entomb her family and bringing her food when she couldn't muster the energy to feed herself. Her time with her friend has taught her to honor and respect all Pact Beasts as equals.
  32.
  33. 7. What does your character see themselves trying to accomplish in the future? How does that tie in to their work as EGGs right now? Does your character believe in destiny?
  34.
  35. Once upon a time, she struggled to plan for her future. There were an infinite number of possibilities in life and she could not bring herself to commit to any one path over another. But when her family was taken from her, it all became clear to her: she would find a cure for death. She would not permit another loved one to die on her watch, and if possible, she would restore life to those she had lost. This sole idea has guided her actions ever since. To that end, her work with the EGGs has primarily involved pursuing anything considered to be a miracle or relating to life and death: something that might give her a clue of how to proceed. She'd chase down reports of resurrection, only to ultimately discover a simple clerical error in the obituaries had confused the superstitious. Reports of everlasting youth would ultimately end in exposure to (admittedly potent) mundane cosmetics. She'd help other EGG members with any spelunking or dungeon diving on the off chance that they'd stumble on something amazing, utilizing her familiarity with the Earth to help her allies maneuver swiftly and safely. Anything and everything was worth it. The idea of fate or destiny scares her nearly as much as death itself. She refuses to believe that it was her family's destiny to die pathetically, cutting short their own dreams. Melanie would spend the rest of her life forging her own future if necessary.

  37. 8. Pick a song that resonates with your character, preferably something you can link on youtube or whatnot. Why does it resonate? Don't worry about it being an outright defining "theme", it doesn't have to be that strong.

  40.
  41. 9. List any expectations you have for this oneshot SHORT CAMPAIGN, any input you want to give on the setting, and other general things here.
  42.
  43. I expect to have an attack called Tombstoner solely to reference that question in Blaine's gym.
