- Dear Mendell Bugle editor,
- As per your most recent story, I am sure you are aware of the recent arrests of Ali Holmes and Marcus Meuller. Unfortunately, as someone with intimate ties with the FIB, I am concerned that this will lead to a false sense of security and to more murders when at least one of the two is eventually exonerated.
- The FIB has the prints from airlocks at every crime scene, and they don't match Holmes or any of his associates. We considered his close friend, Fernando Gonzales, as a suspect, given that witness testimony and his own word placed him as the last person to speak with O'Ryan, but his prints didn't match either.
- This whole investigation was damned from the moment it began. Something is going on in the Bureau. I've looked into the rabbit hole, and it goes deeper than you'd like to imagine. This is higher than just some Odin serial killer. This could be the story of the decade.
- Meuller checks out for the most part, save for how the raid was conducted. The theatrics were unbecoming of an organization like Odin Security, and I've no doubt that the orders came from within the Investigations Bureau. The officers were using riot gear, not tactical gear, despite supposed evidence that he was stockpiling weapons. If it were true, they would have sent us, not some corporate mall-cops. The purpose of riot gear isn't primarily to protect officers- it's to form an unbroken line resistant to physical force, and to intimidate civilians and rioters. All these theatrics surrounding the raid weren't necessary- they were done to make sure the public, and the press, were all over it. They set a trap, and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
- They want funding, of course, but not because they need it. You see, the FIB's actually had much less to work with than they've had allocated, and of course it's been chalked up to accounting errors. But I pulled the payroll, taped together some shredded documents, and found that the salary for Katelyn Jones doesn't match what was in her account. Meanwhile, funds from the agency have been disappearing into some black hole of accounting. I think you're clever enough to figure this one out.
- Holmes, then. Clean as a whistle. We suspect the biggest reason he was chosen is because of his significant net worth and ability to afford a lawyer. This blowing up into a court battle would make it seem like the FIB was vindicated and give them plenty of press, which would lead to more funding for the FIB. And, of course, that would lead to more money in the Director's pockets.
- It's also likely this was motivated at least in part by politics. The Director, as I'm sure you know, is particularly infamous for prosecuting harshly in cases involving pro-NanoTrasen individuals. December 21, 2457- eight congressmen were arrested in a raid related to embezzlement and bribery. Two of them were longtime supporters of NanoTrasen. It is completely possible that the embezzlement they were arrested for was carried out by Jones, if only in part. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but the accusation is likely enough to stir the pot.
- As for evidence-- well. Take a look. I assume you will exercise proper discretion when deciding what will be made public.
