- YouTube likes to censor comments. When it does this, your comment will appear to be submitted, but no one else will be able to see it. This process it automatic and can impact any comment, but seems more likely when you are debating a controversial topic.
- I've read that such comments might be considered "spam"; apparently video creators can go through these comments and specify whether they really are spam or not, if they are so inclined, but if a video has lots of comments, what are the chances that will happen?
- If you wish to know if your comment has been allowed to display, follow these steps:
- 1. You need the comment ID for the comment you are replying to. It is a combination of letters and numbers. Ways to find it:
- -If you have received a notification to a reply and have clicked "View post", the comment ID will already be in the URL.
- -Otherwise, you need to take a look at the source. If you are in Chrome, you can right-click on the comment you are replying to and select "Inspect". You may need to scroll up a bit to find:
- <div class="comment-renderer" data-visibility-tracking="{ignore this}" data-cid="{Comment ID Here}">
- Whatever the contents of "data-cid" (excluding quotation marks) is the comment ID.
- 2. Log out, use an alternate browser, or (if in Chrome) you can go into Incognito mode, in which you start not logged in.
- 3. Append "&google_comment_id=" to the end of the video URL you are watching, and then append the comment ID. Go to this address. The comment you replied to should be the top comment, with the text "Highlighted Comment" on it. If you can find your comment in the replies, your reply is public. Otherwise, you can thank YouTube for censoring your comment.
