  1. * Hug gives channel half-operator status to ThirdEyeLem
  2. * DunderFuchs ([email protected]) has joined
  3. <DunderFuchs> yo
  4. * Bulbasaurus has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
  5. <ThirdEyeLem> Oh hey Dunder
  6. <ThirdEyeLem> Right right, Elsie wanted to do a session tonight
  7. <DunderFuchs> Cool :3
  8. <ThirdEyeLem> Well, "session"
  9. <ThirdEyeLem> I dunno what's going on
  10. <DunderFuchs> prolly just discuss the game mechanical stuff
  11. <ThirdEyeLem> Yeah. I think Bulb's up for using BESM
  12. <ThirdEyeLem> Also, if you're watching while we're doing any of these sessions, feel free to give me any feedback on how you feel about Poppy as a player character
  13. <DunderFuchs> Oh you do great with her :P
  14. <ThirdEyeLem> Really? Anything I can do to improve how to RP her?
  15. <DunderFuchs> Nothing I could say, I don't really look for that sorta stuff though.
  16. <ThirdEyeLem> Oh, ok. Just thought I'd get some outside impressions.
  17. * Bulbasaurus ([email protected]) has joined
  18. * Hug sets mode +a on #PhantasmParadiso Bulbasaurus
  19. * Hug gives channel operator status to Bulbasaurus
  20. * Bulbasaurus gives voice to DunderFuchs
  21. <DunderFuchs> Hai balb
  22. <Bulbasaurus> Hiii
  23. <DunderFuchs> :3
  24. <Bulbasaurus> COmpletely forgot to be here once i got home
  25. <DunderFuchs> It's all fine
  26. <ThirdEyeLem> Oh hey you're here :O
  27. <ThirdEyeLem> Hai Bulb
  28. <Bulbasaurus> Hey
  29. <Bulbasaurus> So as I understand neither of you has looked mucha t besm, and I knwo lable didn't
  30. <ThirdEyeLem> ...
  31. <ThirdEyeLem> Oh D:
  32. <ThirdEyeLem> Sorry ;n;
  33. <Bulbasaurus> Unfortunately due to life and work I haven't done much with it for the last couple weeks either, so it's fine
  34. <ThirdEyeLem> ... XP
  35. <Bulbasaurus> It's looking like the 300-350 tier is where I want to try it out
  36. <Bulbasaurus> I know that much already
  37. <ThirdEyeLem> That's the...Which tier?
  38. <DunderFuchs> Well since it's so similar to GURPs I think I understand the system and its concepts.
  39. <Bulbasaurus> Some characters may be given higher/lower as we already said
  40. <DunderFuchs> That's the points we use to create our characters
  41. <Bulbasaurus> Yeah
  42. <DunderFuchs> I assume
  43. <Bulbasaurus> I did some toying around and I discovered companions, wille pretty op, are not as super op as I thought
  44. <DunderFuchs> It's not like most D20 games where you choose a "class" and assign "levels" to them and then pick whatever abilities you can by looking at a chart
  45. <Bulbasaurus> Yeah, with besm it REALLY helps to have a general idea of what you want a character to do
  46. <Bulbasaurus> Otherwise, GOODBYE FOUR HOURS
  47. <ThirdEyeLem> XD
  48. <ThirdEyeLem> Yesh
  49. <Bulbasaurus> But once you understand the basics of the powers, it goes much faster
  50. <Bulbasaurus> And a lot are self-explanatory, like flying or telekinesis
  51. <Bulbasaurus> Rank 1 in Extra Arms covers prehensile tails
  52. <Bulbasaurus> So, for the purpose of making things simpler
  53. <Bulbasaurus> I have gotten rid of the distinction between Major and Minor elements for the time being, grouped them all into either Light or Dark elements
  54. <ThirdEyeLem> I kinda wondered about that myself, what makes them major or minor, light or dark?
  55. <Bulbasaurus> The main ones were familiar with, fire water earth wind lightning ice magma metal, Light Elements
  56. <Bulbasaurus> Universal Red Power determines it
  57. <Bulbasaurus> The way Green and Red interact creates the Elements
  58. <Bulbasaurus> And Green gets to use them from that point onwards
  59. <Bulbasaurus> But anyway
  60. <Bulbasaurus> Still setting up the rest of the Dark Elements
  61. <Bulbasaurus> Basically
  62. <Bulbasaurus> In every major World, representations of each power exist. A World may be more or less generally, say, one color, but the others play into how they operate
  63. <Bulbasaurus> For example, Windcrest itself is a Yellow World, but the powers of the species are determined by the four Cardinal Elements, which are from Green
  64. <Bulbasaurus> But anyway I'm getting ahead of myself
  65. <ThirdEyeLem> Thanks for the enlightenment anyways :3
  66. <Bulbasaurus> What I want done first is setting up basic powers for the races
  67. <Bulbasaurus> Lem if you still want Poppy as a pony that's fine, I really don't care
  68. <Bulbasaurus> COnsidering Eo's canonically been a vee and I don't plan on changing that
  69. <ThirdEyeLem> :V I still intend her to be a unicorn, yeah. Unless we're going to do the retcon thing like you wanted to ages ago
  70. <Bulbasaurus> I think what I could do to make it really easy is do how FFTA does it
  71. <ThirdEyeLem> Hmm?
  72. <Bulbasaurus> Where you're playing as another race, i.e. Ritz uses Vierra classes
  73. <ThirdEyeLem> Oh right
  74. * DunderFuchs mumbles something about Purple.
  75. <Bulbasaurus> It would make sense in Windcrest terms
  76. <ThirdEyeLem> Yeah, race-exclusive classes would be neat
  77. <Bulbasaurus> Hmmm so yeah about that
  78. <Bulbasaurus> How do you want to do classes? Like DUnder said, besm isn't exactly
  79. <ThirdEyeLem> Makes each character more specialized, like how the Nu Mou were almost always magical, Bangaa are almost physical
  80. <Bulbasaurus> I don't want to say it isn't class-friendly, but
  81. <Bulbasaurus> We'd have to do it ourselves xP
  82. <DunderFuchs> Classes don't exist, unless I am mistaken.
  83. <Bulbasaurus> Maybe where each ooooohhhhhhhh
  84. <Bulbasaurus> Oh I got it
  85. <ThirdEyeLem> Well, that's fine, making a "class" system isn't too hard--hmm?
  86. <Bulbasaurus> We divide points between classes and characters
  87. <DunderFuchs> Do we really need classes?
  88. <DunderFuchs> One thing I always disliked about D20 were classes :p
  89. <DunderFuchs> Seems unnecessary.
  90. <Bulbasaurus> Well our idea is FFTA/FF5 style
  91. <DunderFuchs> In a system like BESM anyway
  92. <DunderFuchs> ah.
  93. <Bulbasaurus> But, I'm always willing to discuss things
  94. <Bulbasaurus> It's true making classes would mean a lot of extra work
  95. <ThirdEyeLem> Well, Poppy was always seen as a spellcaster, she doesn't have the bulk for a physical class, but she can build up her speed if she wants to
  96. <DunderFuchs> They really add absolutely nothing except make the system less flexible because you have to pidgeon-hole characters into preset definitions.
  97. <ThirdEyeLem> I'm fine either way, but...I kinda agree with Dunder, do we actually need classes?
  98. <Bulbasaurus> I think the hardest part honestly would be setting limitations for the classes
  99. <ThirdEyeLem> We eventually kinda purged the class system early on in WC, didn't we?
  100. <Bulbasaurus> I really have no idea. I've honestly been holding onto classes so hard because it's something I'm used to. But now, classes seem more of a "title" thing at this point
  101. <ThirdEyeLem> Yeah
  102. <DunderFuchs> Well we can keep the titles
  103. <DunderFuchs> but don't need it to be reflected in the game mechanics
  104. <Bulbasaurus> It's not something I'm dead-set on keeping. I just kinda thought that's how it was supposed to work:V
  105. <ThirdEyeLem> And I remember because Selene (or whomever) said straight up "we're abolishing the class system right now" way back when we were working with an original system
  106. <DunderFuchs> Well here's what you could do
  107. <ThirdEyeLem> I can dig up the line if you want :V
  108. <Bulbasaurus> I would like to give the class idea a run, but that isn't a pressing matter.
  109. <Bulbasaurus> omg no I recall this
  110. <Bulbasaurus> I believe she said SHE was abolishing it, k so that's WoG
  111. <ThirdEyeLem> WoG?
  112. <DunderFuchs> Bulb I have a good idea for this, it's simple and it'd work to make a class feel without being restrictive
  113. <ThirdEyeLem> Oh
  114. <ThirdEyeLem> Ohhh
  115. <Bulbasaurus> Okay. So, no classes. How do we set character constraints, or dowe even want them
  116. <Bulbasaurus> Oh?
  117. <ThirdEyeLem> Lemme hear what Dunder has to say
  118. <Bulbasaurus> Yes
  119. <DunderFuchs> You could set up "templates" which are just a set of traits and abilities. Like say they have some mage casting abilities that cost a certain amount of points, as are in the rules. And you have some stats. And you just add up the point total of all this, and say this template is worth this amount of points. Any character can easily apply that template to their character. It makes it easier to create characters quickly, beca
  120. <DunderFuchs> So you have a set of stats and abilities that total up to being worth 100 points
  121. <DunderFuchs> and a character can just take that, and they have all those and it costs 100 points to take the template
  122. <DunderFuchs> simple.
  123. <DunderFuchs> And the rest of their points they use to add whatever else on their character they want.
  124. <DunderFuchs> If you understand what I mean.
  125. <ThirdEyeLem> Hmmm. I was thinking of something like that (in the lines of Disgaea 5's Subclass thing, they add stats and abilities but they don't distract from the character's main strengths
