In order for me to find out why the two sides were so diverse, I had to discover more about the strengths and weaknesses of the two machines, starting with their operating systems. The two systems run diverse operating systems. The Mac computers run an operating system under the name Mac OS X and PC’s run on Windows. The two operating systems are similar in many aspects except for some key factors. There are many diversities amongst the two operating systems, but I was mostly interested in what the general public looks at when coming to terms with a product. Mac OS X is said to provide a more user friendly GUI, which stands for Graphical User Interface, allowing the user to navigate through the system in an easier manner. The ease of use of the Mac OS X operating system makes for places such as art related institutes to defer to Mac’s. Windows on the other hand does not provide a GUI that is as easy to navigate through, yet it allows for uses that the Mac OS X is not capable of. For example, as a gamer you might not want to buy a Mac since the Mac OS X operating system is not compatible with most of today’s video games. This is a huge deciding factors for die hard computer gamers. On the other hand Windows is more prone to viruses than Mac OS X since it is the more popular target for malicious software. From the information I have gathered, I have decided that choosing a system based on its operating system is simply not enough to persuade me. I had to keep looking for more information since both operating systems have their flaws.
