  1. Chapter 1
  2.
  3.
  4. Lucas was absolutely lovesick. All he could focus on was Alayna, and all he could think about was how he could steal her heart. Despite the fact that Alayna was already in a serious relationship with the high school quarterback, Lucas could no longer deny his love for her. It was simply too strong. His friends had been trying to help him get over her for months, but nothing ever seemed to work. It was a lost cause.
  5.
  6. Today was Meatball Monday, and Lucas couldn’t even focus on eating. He loved his meatballs, but he loved Alayna even more. He didn’t even notice when Mario Mushroom trampled everyone in the lunch line, just to get his meatballs first. Mario was obsessed with Meatball Monday, and he would always draw attention to himself when trying to cut in the lunch line. But today, Lucas didn’t even notice it. He couldn’t even pay attention to his best friend Declan, who had been trying to get his attention for the past 5 minutes! That is, until Declan punched his arm hard.
  7.
  8. “OW! What the fuck Declan!?”
  9.
  10. “It was the only way to get your attention!”
  11.
  12. “Alright, I’m sorry.”
  13.
  14. “Lucas, how do I put this in the nicest way possible? You have to put a stop to your unrequited love for Alayna. It’s honestly just painful to watch at this point.”
  15.
  16. “I’m afraid that’s not possible. She’s too perfect.”
  17.
  18. “You need to get over her.”
  19.
  20. “Well then maybe you should just get over Nathan! He’s part of the popular crowd too!”
  21.
  22. “My situation with Nathan is completely different.”
  23.
  24. “Different how?”
  25.
  26. “Because I’m actually dating Nathan. You’re just drooling over Alayna. You know she’s taken.”
  27.
  28. “He has a point, you know.” Jack said, as he joined their table. “You’re way too fixed on Alayna. Not only is she taken, but she’s also a self entitled brat. I see right through her bullshit, and trust me, she’s not someone you wanna be with.”
  29.
  30. “But I do wanna be with her. I wanna win her heart and prove to everyone that I’m not just a social zero.”
  31.
  32. “Fuck social status. It’s not important in the real world, and that’s proven by the fact that someone like Declan ended up with Nathan.”
  33.
  34. “What do you mean ‘someone like me’?”
  35.
  36. “Nothing, just that these idiots wanna label you as a zero, yet you’re dating one of their kind. Although, I don’t think Nathan is really one of their kind. He clearly loves Declan unconditionally.”
  37.
  38. “Nathan sees me for the person I am, not how people label me.”
  39.
  40. “Yea exactly! If Alayna was anything like Nathan, I’d say go ahead, but she’s nothing but a spoiled bitch. So I’m gonna say this once more: there’s plenty of other fishes in the sea, go find one.”
  41.
  42. “Did you just call me a fish?” Lucas questioned.
  43.
  44. Jack mentally facepalmed and left the table to go join Bertha, Sara, and Chassity. He simply couldn’t deal with Lucas and his lovesick attitude today. Or any day, really. Him and Declan were mostly the ones trying to get Lucas over Alayna. He was sick and tired of all his attempts failing. He just wished his friends could see past the high school stereotypes at least once in their lives. Stereotypes were worthless, and only tore people apart. Jack knew that. But unfortunately, he was the only one that seemed to get it.
  45.
  46. It was ironic, since Jack was practically made to be popular. He was gorgeous! Even moreso than Declan, and he had a really good sense of humour. Everyone loved Jack. Even Alayna and her friends wanted Jack to be part of their friend group, but Jack turned them down, simply because of how they were. They were all bitches, and he wasn’t afraid to tell them so. Especially because they bullied his closest friends: Lucas, Declan, Bertha, Sara, and Chassity. So he refused to align himself with bullies.
  47.
  48. Meanwhile Lucas was still staring longly at Alayna, without a care in the world about what other people thought. Alayna looked back at him though, but it wasn’t exactly what he hoped for. He was hoping for a smile or a wink, maybe even a wave, but instead she gave him a look of disgust and flipped her hair. But still, Lucas took it as her acknowledging him.
  49.
  50. “Declan, why can’t she be mine? We were practically made for each other.”
  51.
  52. But he didn’t respond, he just gave Lucas an annoyed sigh and followed Jack to the other table, leaving Lucas all alone.
  53.
  54. Lucas felt like crying. Has it really gotten this bad that even Declan didn’t wanna be around him anymore? This was the final straw. Lucas knew that the only way for him to stop annoying his friends with fantasies about Alayna, was to actually be with Alayna. He didn’t know how yet, but he was gonna steal her heart one way or another. It was just a matter of time.
  55.
  56. But that still didn’t change how bad he felt as he watched Nathan walk right past him. He didn’t even stop to say hello! Instead he went directly to the other table, where everyone else was. Lucas felt excluded, but soon enough, he’d have Alayna by his side, and none of that would matter anymore.
  57.
  58. “Hey y’all!”
  59.
  60. “Nathan!”
  61.
  62. Bertha watched in awe as Declan jumped into Nathan’s arms and kissed him. Something about gay love just always made her heart smile. No one ever knew why. Maybe she just appreciated the diversity? Most likely. She took out her phone to take a picture of the happy couple, but Chassity took her phone out of her hands and put it on the table. Chassity was all for gay love too, but Bertha taking pictures was too much. She was happy to just watch.
  63.
  64. But unfortunately the entertainment was short lived. It wasn’t long before Alayna and Alexa came along to split them up. Alayna couldn’t handle the sight of Nathan kissing Declan. Alayna believed strongly in high school stereotypes and social status, and to her, Declan was not worthy of even approaching someone like Nathan, let alone dating him. Despite the fact that Declan was pretty, Alayna just didn’t like him all that much. At least, that’s how she made it sound.
  65.
  66. Alayna spent so much time trying to convince herself and others that Declan was undeserving of respect, just to deny the truth. Alayna was actually jealous of Declan. Ever since his first day at this school, he’s always had that likeability factor that she didn’t have. To this day, everyone still loves Declan, but they pick on him because Alayna says to. She couldn’t handle the idea of anyone being more popular than her and potentially overthrowing her, so she set out to tear Declan apart.
  67.
  68. Alexa, on the other hand, wanted to stay at this table and chat. She wanted to see Nathan kiss Declan. She never minded Declan, she actually kinda liked him. Even if he only hanged out with the popular crowd a few times, due to his relationship with Nathan. Unlike Alayna, the rest of the popular crowd thought Declan was cute, and okay to hang out with. But they could never tell Alayna that. Never.
  69.
  70. “Nathan, come with us.” Alayna pleaded.
  71.
  72. He sighed. “Alright, I guess I’d better get back to my friends. Later Declan.”
  73.
  74. Nathan kissed Declan’s forehead, then walked, or was dragged, to another table with Alayna and Alexa. Of course, that hurt Lucas more, watching Alayna interact with and hang out with other guys. He wanted it to be him. He wanted to be her world, and he would try anything at this point, to make her notice him.Chapter 1
