  1. Meat Inspection Act: The Federal Meat Inspection Act of 1906 (FMIA) is an American law that makes it a crime to adulterate or misbrand meat and meat products being sold as food, and ensures that meat and meat products are slaughtered and processed under strictly regulated sanitary conditions.
  2. 16th Amendment: The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
  3. 17th Amendment: The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.
  4. 18th Amendment: This unpopular amendment banned the sale and drinking of alcohol in the United States.
  5. 19th Amendment: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
  6. Pure Food and Drug Act: The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 prohibited the sale of misbranded or adulterated food and drugs in interstate commerce and laid a foundation for the nation's first consumer protection agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  7. Sherman Antitrust Act: The Sherman Antitrust Act is landmark 1890 U.S. legislation which outlawed trusts — monopolies and cartels — to increase economic competitiveness.
  8. Settlement Houses: An institution in an inner-city area providing educational, recreational, and other social services to the community.
  9. Trustbusting: Trust busting is the manipulation of an economy, carried out by governments around the world, in an attempt to prevent or eliminate monopolies and corporate trusts.
