  1. (07:02:21) Syd: Alright, let's do this. Let me know when Twitch is live.
  2. (07:02:56) Permafry_42: live
  3. (07:02:56) beansmyname: live!
  4. (07:03:45) Cheeseness: Enjoy!
  5. (07:04:38) Syd: This one should only go a bit over an hour
  6. (07:05:14) Cheeseness: Cool bees
  7. (07:05:54) Stanto [Mibbit@hide-B8071403.cable.virginm.net] entered the room.
  8. (07:06:40) Cheeseness: Hi Stanto
  9. (07:06:58) Sven_Q45 [Mibbit@hide-91DF4875.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
  10. (07:07:01) Stanto: Hey
  11. (07:07:08) Syd: Hey Sven_Q45 and Stanto
  12. (07:07:10) Sven_Q45: A little late hi.
  13. (07:07:20) Syd: You haven't missed much
  14. (07:07:26) Sven_Q45: Sorry a lil bit to late.
  15. (07:07:33) Cheeseness: Hey Sven_Q45
  16. (07:07:36) Stanto: rip pTerry
  17. (07:07:45) Sven_Q45: Did I miss something importing in my lifetime?
  18. (07:07:46) Cheeseness: Susan's a great character
  19. (07:08:03) Sven_Q45: Hi Cheese and Syd.
  20. (07:08:22) Sven_Q45: Hi to the others too.
  21. (07:08:28) Permafry_42: really like the setting btw
  22. (07:08:53) Cheeseness: It's hard to know whether the biggest appeal is the game itself, or getting to see an interpretation of all these characters and locations
  23. (07:09:08) Sven_Q45: DST had arrived since last week.
  24. (07:09:12) Cheeseness: For some people
  25. (07:09:23) Cheeseness: For some people it's departed (and for other people it's been around for a while)
  26. (07:09:26) Stanto: I started playing Discworld , then got into the books
  27. (07:09:28) Sven_Q45: yea
  28. (07:09:34) beansmyname: For me, it's the latter. Without the context of the books, this adventure would be kinda boring.
  29. (07:09:37) Cheeseness: I played Discworld Noir before I read any of the books
  30. (07:09:46) beansmyname: I never played Noir.
  31. (07:09:52) Cheeseness: I feel like that one stands stronger on its own than these first two
  32. (07:09:53) Sven_Q45: Russia has no DST anymore.
  33. (07:09:55) beansmyname: Maybe that one stands alone better.
  34. (07:10:01) Cheeseness: Yay, more love for Russia
  35. (07:10:02) Stanto: I never finished Noir, it had a bug that stopped me finishing it
  36. (07:10:06) Cheeseness: Ah, darn
  37. (07:10:23) Stanto: Noir was odd in a good way
  38. (07:10:32) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness More love for Russia?
  39. (07:10:39) Cheeseness: For not doing DST
  40. (07:11:07) Sven_Q45: Noir was different but nice.
  41. (07:11:11) Stanto: DST?
  42. (07:11:24) Cheeseness: "Daylight Savings Time"
  43. (07:12:08) Sven_Q45: Well DST has a few advantage. The stream starts 1 hour later so I can play something before that.
  44. (07:12:32) Cheeseness: During the week, Syd and I were talking about Death voices. I feel like the voice that matches the character best for me is the one from this animated series https://youtu.be/rRhzClMa7qs?t=6m14s (although the delivery is a bit fast on some of the lines)
  45. (07:12:32) Cheeseness: https://youtu.be/rRhzClMa7qs?t=6m14s
  46. (07:13:28) Cheeseness: Hmm, no idea why I pasted that again >_<
  47. (07:13:36) Sven_Q45: Ah tea time. :)
  48. (07:14:20) beansmyname: That's not nice!
  49. (07:14:22) Cheeseness: heh, "little twerp"
  50. (07:14:29) beansmyname: Little twerp in the dress sounds hateful.
  51. (07:14:42) Cheeseness: It does, but it's always amusing to see Rincewind called a little twerp
  52. (07:14:44) Sven_Q45: What´s not nice?
  53. (07:15:04) beansmyname: Calling someone a little twerp in a dress.
  54. (07:15:42) Stanto: This game, was full of animation bugs
  55. (07:16:06) Cheeseness: :D
  56. (07:16:28) Stanto: I'm glad ScummVM supports it because playing the DOS version is bum
  57. (07:16:46) Cheeseness: Yeah, definitely
  58. (07:16:50) Sven_Q45: I liked that part of the game.
  59. (07:16:50) Stanto: The Windows version died with 98
  60. (07:17:06) Cheeseness: I wish that there was support for Discworld Noir in Residual or something
  61. (07:17:42) Stanto: Ah yes that reminds me, Discworld Noir works nicely in a virtual machine.
  62. (07:18:14) Cheeseness: Can't really bring myself to run Windows in a virtual machine
  63. (07:18:20) Cheeseness: And since it doesn't run in Wine, I'm out of options
  64. (07:18:34) Cheeseness: Heh, Albert
  65. (07:19:54) Sven_Q45: lool
  66. (07:20:34) Cheeseness: Bean and I were commenting on the differences in presentation between Rincewind in these games vs the books
  67. (07:20:43) Cheeseness: He's definitely more aware and thoughtful
  68. (07:21:09) Stanto: You have to be thoughtful, it's the only way you know how best and when to run away
  69. (07:22:18) Cheeseness: And yet, this Rincewind isn't anywhere near as cowardly as he is in the books :b
  70. (07:22:45) Stanto: Cheeseness: just looked up, wine + discworld noir, hasn't been tested for 4 years
  71. (07:23:06) Stanto: unless you've tried it lately?
  72. (07:23:10) Cheeseness: I have
  73. (07:23:25) Stanto: bum
  74. (07:23:29) Cheeseness: I didn't submit test results because they prefer to only have new results submitted for current versions of Wine and I was a little behind
  75. (07:23:29) Syd: I keep accidentally right clicking on the luggage
  76. (07:24:12) Stanto: I've upgraded computers sufficiently .. that I managed to build a rig running Windows 98 to be able to run old games reasonably well.. it's my retro pc box
  77. (07:24:46) Stanto: getting a web browser working on it is a challenge.
  78. (07:24:46) Permafry_42: weird jab at graphic novels
  79. (07:25:21) Stanto: Terry didn't care for these games much
  80. (07:25:37) Sven_Q45: Really?
  81. (07:25:44) Cheeseness: I'd never really read anything about his feelings towards the games
  82. (07:25:54) Sven_Q45: I thought he and Rihanna wanted to make a new game!
  83. (07:25:54) Stanto: Yeah, I asked him about it
  84. (07:26:02) Cheeseness: Ah, nice
  85. (07:26:53) Stanto: eric idle was a good voice to choose I thought
  86. (07:27:08) beansmyname: Eric Idle's always a good choice, eh? ;)
  87. (07:27:13) Cheeseness: It felt weird for about 20 minutes for me, but it's stuck and felt natural ever since
  88. (07:27:53) Sven_Q45: Yes i like that vioce.
  89. (07:28:06) Stanto: Considering the news article which had bees make rainbow coloured honey thanks to feeding on skittle syrup, I wonder what we could feed them to make black honey/wax
  90. (07:28:26) Cheeseness: This game might take the Monty Python references a little too far in this one
  91. (07:29:25) Stanto: The style of 2 was so surprisingly different to the first
  92. (07:30:08) Stanto: at least graphically
  93. (07:31:01) Stanto: The first felt like it followed josh kirby
  94. (07:32:37) Cheeseness: Hmm
  95. (07:33:00) Cheeseness: The flat shading of the characters still stands out as being notably different from the book covers though
  96. (07:33:38) Sven_Q45: Very different. Both games have their own charme.
  97. (07:33:51) Cheeseness: Yeah
  98. (07:34:05) Syd: This bit with the assassin kind of goes on forever
  99. (07:34:16) Cheeseness: I think in 1995, the first game was probably low res compared to other adventure games of the time
  100. (07:34:18) Permafry_42: dat aaaaaah though
  101. (07:34:37) Stanto: Cheeseness: it was about on par
  102. (07:34:58) Stanto: Because it was a cross-over period really
  103. (07:35:08) Cheeseness: Comparing it to Full Throttle for example
  104. (07:35:21) Syd: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/6c/57/28/6c5728491696ac74f96bf5dbe01283cb.jpg
  105. (07:35:35) Cheeseness: Hah
  106. (07:36:16) Stanto: The pace of the patrician's off.
  107. (07:36:22) Cheeseness: Yeah
  108. (07:36:50) RUBICN64 [Android@FD31B365:65CDEA:20E766A2:IP] entered the room.
  109. (07:36:58) Cheeseness: The timing of this scene in general feels a bit weird IMO
  110. (07:37:19) Cheeseness: And that's the implementation rather than the delivery (the lines are fine, but the gaps between some of the lines feel awkward)
  111. (07:37:28) Cheeseness: Hey RUBICN64
  112. (07:37:50) RUBICN64: hi Cheeseness
  113. (07:38:03) RUBICN64: long time no see
  114. (07:38:10) Cheeseness: ^_^
  115. (07:38:44) Cheeseness: Syd: Could you not use the rod on the honey rather than the other way around?
  116. (07:39:06) Sven_Q45: Shame Syd didn´t enter the elf kingdom the 5th time...
  117. (07:40:13) Stanto: wasn't glamorous enough
  118. (07:40:49) Sven_Q45: it was. :)
  119. (07:41:20) Syd: Those who were at our first session might recognize this cutscene
  120. (07:41:28) Syd: Except now it's with Rincewind instead of Death
  121. (07:41:30) Cheeseness: Rincewind looks so manic there
  122. (07:41:59) Permafry_42: the crowd animation is a little weird
  123. (07:42:37) Stanto: I think they cut frames out to save disc space
  124. (07:42:47) Cheeseness: Death's animation is a bit funky as well
  125. (07:44:40) Sven_Q45: The dead of death? :D
  126. (07:44:41) Sven_Q45: +
  127. (07:45:16) beansmyname: Five groats a bottle is a ripoff.
  128. (07:45:33) Cheeseness: Considering what's in it, yeah
  129. (07:49:36) Cheeseness: Adventure game protagonists and their kleptomania :D
  130. (07:50:00) Sven_Q45: don´t play randals monday then.
  131. (07:50:48) Stanto left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  132. (07:51:40) Stanto [Mibbit@hide-B8071403.cable.virginm.net] entered the room.
  133. (07:53:49) Syd: Time for the gratuitous 3D scene
  134. (07:53:58) Cheeseness: Rincewind's face
  135. (07:54:02) Cheeseness: Ha ha
  136. (07:54:16) Cheeseness: I like how Death's bones are so shiny
  137. (07:54:17) Stanto: we're livin in tha future
  138. (07:54:38) Cheeseness: heh
  139. (07:55:17) Sven_Q45: bloody great. :D
  140. (07:56:08) Cheeseness: Rincewind finally gets some kip
  141. (07:57:29) Syd: And then a giant elf queen emerges from the clicky for reasons I'm not entirely sure of.
  142. (07:57:29) Sven_Q45: Death looks so funny in this movie. :D
  143. (07:57:38) Cheeseness: Ho ho reversal
  144. (07:58:12) Stanto: ook
  145. (07:59:15) Stanto left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  146. (08:01:51) Cheeseness: I like that the Grim Squeaker doesn't appear to be watching
  147. (08:07:29) Cheeseness: Acurry with Death
  148. (08:08:15) Syd: We get a nice encore performance of "That's Death" for the end credits
  149. (08:11:16) Syd: Let me know when the outro is over so I don't cut anything off when ending the stream
  150. (08:11:34) Sven_Q45: I like this performance!
  151. (08:11:36) Cheeseness: There we go :)
  152. (08:11:42) Sven_Q45: out
  153. (08:11:42) Cheeseness: THanks to everybody for coming!
  154. (08:12:01) Cheeseness: Don't forget to leave an opinion in the forum thread! http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/16618/
  155. (08:12:19) Sven_Q45: Next session sam and max? GREAT!
  156. (08:12:20) Syd: Thanks for joining us, everyone
  157. (08:12:27) Syd: Yep, Sam & Max 106 next
  158. (08:12:34) Cheeseness: Tell your friends
  159. (08:12:57) Sven_Q45: nobody I told yet came here. :(
  160. (08:12:58) Cheeseness: We're also taking a hiatus after we do Broken Age Act 2
  161. (08:13:34) Sven_Q45: how long?
  162. (08:13:47) Cheeseness: Not sure at this point
  163. (08:13:51) Syd: Can't say for sure yet, but keep an eye out for announcements
  164. (08:14:13) Cheeseness: We'll take that time to iron out the future of Game Club and see where things go from there :)
  165. (08:14:41) Sven_Q45: What? eprivation
  166. (08:14:51) Sven_Q45: Deprivation alertt!
  167. (08:15:22) Cheeseness: Also, Adventure Jam is happening at the moment
  168. (08:15:26) Cheeseness: People should make stuff!
  169. (08:16:18) Syd: I would if I knew how. I've never gotten around to making myself sit down with AGS or something similar and learn how to use it. :P
  170. (08:16:30) beansmyname: See you all next week! Until next time…
  171. (08:16:38) beansmyname left the room (gone baby gone).
