- Scientology Links to "Best Friend in Congress" Scrubbed In Google, Bing, Wikipedia
- Locked in a tough re-election battle, Scientology's "best friend in Congress" Rep. Brad Sherman has had his long connection to COS scrubbed from Web search engines such as Google, as well as Wikipedia.
- 1.Just last year "Salon" magazine named Brad Sherman one of "the church’s best friends currently serving in Congress."
- 2.COS specially honored Sherman at a 2004 Celebrity Center Gala.
- 3.When the Scientology HQ opened in Washington, D.C., Brad Sherman starred at the ceremony and “praised the organization as a positive force for human rights and religious freedom.”
- 4.In 2009, COS public affairs flack Sylvia Stanard said Sherman “is not a church member but supports the human rights work the church is doing all over the world.'”
- Voters should have access to that information. But here's the problem:
- Google shows no connection whatsoever to Scientology when searching “Brad Sherman.” Neither does Bing.
- Sherman's Wikipedia entry has been systematically edited day after day to remove mentions of Scientology.
- This scrubbing is relatively recent, and has the effect of suppressing information about links between the candidate and COS on the eve of an election.
- Unfortunately, most voters in Sherman's new Congressional District know nothing at all about his loyalty to the Church of Scientology.
- Sherman is running against fellow Democrat Howard Berman (D-CA), thanks to redistricting and California's new top-two primary system, and is running way ahead of Berman according to Sherman's polling.
- Both are Democrats. There's very little difference between them in terms of voting or policy.
- COS supports Brad Sherman – but the voters know almost nothing of their relationship.
- PLEASE HELP MAKE THIS INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO VOTERS.
