  1. Once, there was a ship of stone
  2. That orbited a mighty star
  3. And from it flew the first ship's crew
  4. Whose children we all are
  5.
  6. And no matter how long we've grown our track
  7. Still over our shoulder looking back
  8.
  9. Through the hydrogen's hiss and the methane's moan
  10. Past the polymer clouds of the dead star shrouds
  11. All our roads run back to the ship of stone
  12.
  13. there the first crew all were made
  14. and wakened from unknowing sleep
  15. by the boundless sight
  16. of heaven's height
  17. and the fires of the deep
  18.
  19. and no matter how strange the forms we wear
  20. how warped and wild, how rich and rare
  21.
  22. how changed we've made the seed we've sown
  23. we are the lot of those who singing rose
  24. from the body of the ship of stone
  25.
  26. and there our own ships' frames were formed
  27. to grow blue-glowing wings
  28. and spread them wide
  29. to the farthest tide
  30. where the last lone beacon sings
  31.
  32. and no matter how tight the net they knot of our web
  33. where the [????] of light is caught
  34. how strange and lost
  35. how grand they've grown
  36.
  37. they too desire all heaven's fire
  38. our comrades since the ship of stone
  39.
  40. once, there was a ship of stone
  41. clear-domed, broad-hulled and clean
  42. where the air shone blue
  43. through whose holds birds flew
  44. and whose decks were growing green
  45.
  46. and no matter how odd these things may seem
  47. as [????], as shards of dream
  48. they are not a dream that you dream alone
  49.
  50. all ships, all men are of one kin
  51. we shall not forget the ship of stone
  52.
