Maybe 16 year old you and 16 year old me can share a love forever, never having to deal with the reality that 18 year old you and 18 year old me don’t share anything. Maybe 16 year old you and 16 year old me can always create good memories, never knowing that they’ll come to haunt 21 year old me. And 21 year old you will be doing something great and I’ll never know you again. And 26 year old me who hasn’t known 26 year old you for a decade will lose another love and try and blame them for the hole in his heart. And maybe 30 year old me will hear your name again, when 30 year old you shows up on the biggest sign in Time Square. And 31 year old me will know that 31 year old you has achieved her dreams and everything you’ve wanted, and at 32, I can fall in love with you all over again, as if the 16 years between the past and the present no longer meant anything and that I knew you again. And hopefully before the end of my years I’ll come to accept what 17 year old you told 17 year old me. But against what you said then, I still hope that when 32 year old you thinks of 16 year old you, that it’s rather 16 year old us, and that maybe 16 year old you and 16 year old me can forever stay in love, undisturbed by the future.
