- I have a strange wol problem, tom please help me
- x23piracy
- Hi Tom, is there any place i can check to see if fog is waking up my computers again and again? i really have no idea what is causing this but after removing the host from fog they still turn on. I am busted :(
- x23piracy
- Hi Tom the Wake up Problem is 100% FOG caused, if i turn the fog server off machine does not wake up, when i boot fog and shutdown the computer that always turns on it happens again. The computer is no more fog registered but fog is causing the power on thats for sure.
- Could you please help me in a way?
- https://forums.fogproject.org/post/75832 i am crying
- can i check something in fog db where maybe a wol job is pending again and again?
- x23piracy
- I could also remove the fog service from the problematic computer, when fog server is running it will wake that computer also if host is not registered to fog, i really need you to find out why fog is sending wol to that computers
- can we please check my database to see whats causing this bad issue?
- x23piracy
- FYI: https://i.imgur.com/RxMHp1V.png
- can i reset my database without loosing all my settings? i just want to delete anything host related
- x23piracy
- FYI again, sorry for bugging such hard but thats a big problem to me: https://i.imgur.com/gZFw8r7.png

- Tom Elliott
- I’m so confused man.
- only systems that are NOT registered are running WOL?
- while registered systems are fine?
- x23piracy
- hi tom ok lets start from scratch
- i have 16 new computer, i had all of them registered to fog and deploayed my win 10 image with fog client integrated
- Tom Elliott
- yep.
- x23piracy
- while setup them up i could mention that they turn on by magic always when i shutted them dowm
- Tom Elliott
- okay
- x23piracy
- then i removed all that clients from fog and also removed the fog service from one of the machines
- but they still turn on by magic
- Tom Elliott
- okay
- x23piracy
- when they boot the do a network boot not just a simple switch on
- Tom Elliott
- that doesn’t mean much
- x23piracy
- i can see this because they boot into fog menu and them the 5 second timeout let them boot os
- Tom Elliott
- if the systems are setup to pxe boot first
- that would happen anyway
- but
- x23piracy
- when i shutdown the fog server these clients dont wake up
- Tom Elliott
- i need a log
- of the /opt/fog/fogscheduler.log
- x23piracy
- is there somethin for direct pastebin upload or something ?
- could i reach the log via webif else i need winscp
- Tom Elliott
- you can get it from the log viewer utility built into the gui
- x23piracy
- i grabbed it from winscp
- http://pastebin.com/BMNmi44J
- wayne recommended to temporarily shutdown fogscheduler
- why do i have entry in tasks table? shouldn’t it be empty if i dont have any scheduled or running tasks?
- Tom Elliott
- tasks are handled by states
- 1,2,3 are “queued, inline, in progress”
- 4,5 are complete and cancelled
- x23piracy
- they all have 4 or 5
- Tom Elliott
- yep
- that’s fine
- x23piracy
- i’ve stop fogscheduler
- Tom Elliott
- have hosts stopped WOL?
- x23piracy
- i will now shutdown the workstation to see if it turns on again
- i just stopped it some seconds ago wait…
- is it a problem that i’Ve cleared tasks table?
- it’s empty now, didn’t knew that is not important if there are entrys
- the workstation has switched on again while fogscheduler was stopped
- Tom Elliott
- okay
- so what’s output of
- crontab -l
- x23piracy
- m h dom mon dow command
- @reboot sudo bash -c ‘/home/fog/restart_services.sh’ &
- root@fog:/opt/fog/log#
- ups sorry for the big letters :D
- the only cronline is: @reboot sudo bash -c ‘/home/fog/restart_services.sh’ &
- Tom Elliott
- well it’s not something FOG has done that’s waking these systems up.
- it can’t be
- fogscheduler is the ONLY service that performs wake on lan operations
- you can stop all fog services as a test.
- x23piracy
- it is i would be money, when i now shutdown fog server and after that the workstation it does not turn on anymore
- Tom Elliott
- systemctl stop FOGScheduler
- x23piracy
- tom i swear to you this is something fog is doing
- Tom Elliott
- systemctl stop FOGPingHosts
- no
- it’s not
- i’m not saying your fog server isn’t doing anything
- x23piracy
- what else could it be then?
- Tom Elliott
- but it’s not anything FOG is doing
- x23piracy
- cosmic radiation ? :D
- Tom Elliott
- FOGScheduler is the only thing that cycles to turn systems on.
- and even then, it can only do so with systems that are registered.
- do you have other nodes?
- x23piracy
- now i have stopped both services fogscheduler and pinghosts
- Tom Elliott
- pinghosts has nothing to do with it
- do you have multiple nodes
- x23piracy
- yes i have one storage node
- Tom Elliott
- And the main server?
- so you have 2 “nodes”?
- x23piracy
- what about the main server?
- yes 2 nodes
- Tom Elliott
- okay
- and the other node
- can you access it via GUI?
- so
- browser
- http://<othernodesIP>/fog/
- x23piracy
- first normal fog with webif and less storage (vm) second physical machine with 4tb as storage node
- This is a storage node, please do not access the web ui here!
- Tom Elliott
- okay
- now on that node
- what about it’s FOGService?
- x23piracy
- i haven’t touched the storage node while main fog server is offlien
- i was not thinking about the maybe the storage node is doing the problem
- Tom Elliott
- can you please do it?
- i need to find why it’s doing this
- x23piracy
- ok what should i do with the storage node?
- also disable fogscheduler?
- Tom Elliott
- just get the log first
- x23piracy
- ok wait a second
- the only entry in fogscheduler.log on the storage node is: [08-05-16 5:53:05 pm] * No tasks found!
- Tom Elliott
- and output of
- systemctl -l status FOGScheduler
- x23piracy
- ubuntu!
- service?
- Tom Elliott
- Doesn’t mean anything
- Ubuntu 15 and up uses systemctl
- x23piracy
- i get comand not found
- Tom Elliott
- so
- go ahead and stop the FOGScheduler
- x23piracy
- ok it’s stopped
- Tom Elliott
- now you stopped PingHosts on the server too?
- x23piracy
- no just scheduler
- Tom Elliott
- go ahead and restart fogscheduler
- and stop pinghosts
- x23piracy
- ok started scheduler again and pinghosts wasn’t running because: * Stopping FOG Computer Imaging Solution: FOGPingHosts start-stop-daemon: warning: failed to kill 1570: No such process
- why do you think the storage node is maybe causing this, while fog main server is off and only storage node is running workstations remain off
- the problem only exists when main fog is active
- Tom Elliott
- just trying to see all angles
- x23piracy
- ok understand
- you can also have system access again if you like
- maybe we can see live whats triggering the wol
- x23piracy
- i have turned off the workstation again and since 2-3 minutes it remains off
- Tom Elliott
- so turn back on ping hosts.
- x23piracy
- on both machines?
- Tom Elliott
- and what’s in the /opt/fog/log/pinghosts.log file
- only the main server
- x23piracy
- pinghosts start for both?
- Tom Elliott
- just the main server
- x23piracy
- lol
- immediatelly the workstation turned on
- i could here the relay from the kvm switch
- service FOGPingHosts start and 1-2 seconds later workstation turned on
- Tom Elliott
- adn what does the pinghosts.log file show
- x23piracy
- http://pastebin.com/bGBnVhCz
- should i try again? stop pinghosts, shutdown workstation, start pinghosts and see if it turns on immediatelly?
- ok did it and it’s the same 2 seconds after starting the pinghosts service the workstation switched on
- i can do it a third time if you like
- x23piracy
- it seems that fogpinghosts i causing this
- disable that service, shutdown the problematic workstation, enable the pinghosts service again and exactly 2 seconds later the workstation turns on
- i did that 2 times, and i will also happen if i try it a third time
- Tom Elliott
- okay
- i’m looking at ping hosts
- but what’s most intriguing
- there’s no code to send any packets to unknown hosts
- can you do a Teamviewer session?
- x23piracy
- sure
- 285 312 065
- 8120
- i will open you a cmd with permanent ping to the workstation that turns on auto
- Tom Elliott
- no need
- x23piracy
- so i need to powercfg -h now and you can workaround that also by fog?
- Tom Elliott
- I cannot workaround by fog.
- There is simply no way for me to.
- You can workaround it by disabling the ping service
- this can be done on the GUI
- FOG Configuration Page->FOG Settings->General Settings->FOG_HOST_LOOKUP
- x23piracy
- powercfg- -h off right?
- Tom Elliott
- uncheck the box
- yes
- powercfg -h off
