You just allow opalbot external emoji perms, and then make a second discord server with the remaining emojis.

ok cool, looks like when I implemented cap in ULX, I got rid of the SteamID overrides
I'll have to update the code to accept a console command such as "sgmcap" which will allow SteamID overrides
cause ULX doesnt allow SteamID overrides as far as I'm aware

ULX goes by the user rank. So if you don't have the required rank you can't use the command
However we had an alternative thing that allows specific SteamIDs to access cap even without the rnak
But it was removed when we ported it to a ULX command

the server will actually be hosted on the East coast in this case but more peoplein central US might experience higher pings (edited)
I don't know how many EU players play on East but they might benefit from this

I have pretty crappy internet and I don’t have much issues between West and East. I don’t think it’s a big enough distance to make too large of an issue. We have quite a bit of EU players that play on the US servers during the day- so you’re right about that.
As far as French- I wouldn’t put too much weight on what JewTwo says to be honest. It has been reported to the police (whatever he does have)- but his obsessiveness behind everything was super concerning and probably even made the police shrug it off. He even sent me a screenshot of an email of the police more or less telling him to stop bugging about the investigation and to leave the families alone. He’s said multiple times that Sith has been “arrested” and charged- only for it to be false over and over again. They’re pretty disconnected from SGM as a whole though now.

Mhmm. JewTwo is not even originally involved in all this. He forcefully involved himself because he was trying to befriend French, and started stalking everyone and everything involved. Most of what he says either never happened or is very very exaggerated
At this point this entire incident has nothing to do with SGM anymore. Everyone involved are no longer part of the community and JewTwo is just being dramatic for no reason

The police investigation was about Sith and French. JewTwo apparently submitted a bunch of imgur albums to them of private conversations and emails, and other evidence of a relationship going on. The lawsuit (which he told me today there isn’t one) was about French supposedly scamming him out of $7500 for steam games.
There’s this whole story about Sith kidnapping her and stuff too, and images floating around of Sith and French kissing, etc- this is all way after they were banned from SGM

So Opalium will be stepping down in a month or two
And I am tied to other responsibilities
we are considering shutting down the community
what this means
is that we put the community in sort of a maintenance phase for a year
we disable the sale of yearly ranks
we announce we are shutting down
and in a year or so, we actually close down the servers
I will probably keep the website running as long as it needs to
but basically we will not have any content updates
What are your thoughts on this?

Alright, I’ll talk to panda; he originally talked to me about the ban and seems it was misconstrued a bit to me, I’ll figure out where that went wrong and make sure it won’t be an issue again, no matter what that takes to ensure it. From what I recall, he was considering a resignation awhile back with grimorie actually before grim went, and is just holding on due to his trial moderator at this point, which could potentially mean his heart is in a few places right now.

Little aside here: Funny you bring up unclebee actually; I believe an admin was looking into his recent post history to see if theres a need for action, I was going to dig a bit down the rabbit hole and figure it out myself since they haven’t gotten back to me.

I have not, interesting. May of thought at that moment in time it that the community may of been associated with SGM in some capacity still, since very little was known about it at the time to the moderators. Also I interviewed both Trinityblade and Lion today, and both painted themselves to be pretty good candidates. Lion is a long time moderator at this point whose been under several admins (Aco, Panda, Luna), and has developed a pretty good sense what the role of administration means to our community, and what he can do to help out in our final year or so. Trinity is a newish moderator(~3 months of experience) whose quickly learned the ropes and is eager to help out the in the administrative sense. He excels with his ability to work with regulars on controversial issues and communicates effectively and efficiently.

Also - I actually liked hacking bans being global on 1st Offense.
They're usually up to no good. I know some hackers change their ways after some time. I don't doubt that everyone deserves a 2nd chance.
But it would probably be a good idea to keep them off all servers for 4 weeks.
Not just local. Back when these bans were local, it happened quite a few times that they just hopped on another server after they got banned and continued.
Hacking is a severe offense. A global ban would be appropriate imo.

Opals intent with the rank was to have someone who can focus on the community side of things so that the leads could focus more on the behind the scenes stuff.
Seeing as the community and staff team are smaller now, and there's two of us, I think we can handle both at the same time.
Also regarding the hacking protocol - I see what you mean, but the admin punishment requests for hacking aren't really a problem imo.
Nothing we can't handle.
I feel like hacking is a more severe offense than ghosting and requires a more severe punishment.

@Highwon the staff teams reaction to the changes regarding hacking bans wasn't very positive.
The mods think that's too lenient. And I have to say - I agree.
I think 4w, 8w, 16w, 32w global then perma is what we should do. It would be best if communicate that 5th+ means perma.
That would reflect that we won't allow this to go on forever and that we'll put an end to it if someone continously ruining the fun for others.
I agree that we shouldn't hand out permas lightly.
But if someone get continously banned for hacking, with a total ban time of almost 14 months, it's clear to me that the person shouldn't be allowed to be part of this community anymore. (edited)

Have you guys seen the local RDM Report Saver that My Dime is Up did? It would keep staff from having to screenshot each report and then search through all of the screenshots to get it. Seems pretty useful.

Also, I want to point out that the process of localizing the first ban can actually be less lenient that having it globalized.

Some hackers receive their first offense and then stop playing on the server. However, the ones that go to the other servers and hack on them a second time receive a longer, globalized ban. It's kind of a way to give players a chance to change, but then punish them further if they decide to hack again on another SGM server.

I think it should stay the same as it is written in the rules.
Finally, I think that if we want to prevent the community from getting any smaller than what it is now, we should make announcements regarding the cancellation of the server shutdown. We have players that want to stay, play, and help us out, but they see no endgame; they need a goal.

I can make an announcement regarding this, summarizing our goals as the administration if you give me the go-ahead @Highwon. I would also like to post the dates the rollbacks will begin to occur to give them a timeline.
It's up to you guys if we should let the staff team know first. I would be worried about leaking the good news.

Hey @Highwon! @Teroxa and I are looking at potentially removing the RDM and Leave bans if we can slay SteamID's. I remember when slays used to stay on a player when they left, but they don't anymore. Is there any way we can get it rolled back so slays are global and don't expire until you've been slain and a round expires?

I really think that now that we can slay SteamID's, it could really help our community.

What's the recovery rate among players with a 3rd or even 4th+ offense? I personally don't remember ever seeing someone who truly changes their ways after deciding to hack again after they've already been banned 3 times.

You have to realize what you're trading for that.
I'm all for giving people 2nd or even 3rd chances.
But after that? No, not for hackers.
It means that they've already had multiple clear warnings in the form of bans, spent a total of at least 28 weeks banned, yet still decide to come back and do the same thing again.
Meanwhile, they've already ruined the experience for a whole server of possibly 30 people at once 3 times, staff has to spend time recording them, catching them, uploading and editing hacking evidence, etc.
Hackers usually join full or decently populated servers. So there's a chance that after 3 hacking bans they've impacted the experience of somwhat between 30 - 100 players negatively. That's nothing that deserves leniency.
And even if they suddenly change, which I highly doubt, staff will still spend time spectating them, recording them trying to see if they still hack. Because you can never be sure. I myself have spent countless hours watching potential hackers that have previous offenses and links in their stats that hint they might still be hacking.
Even if they stopped hacking, there's no way to know. And even if changed their mind, there's no guarantee they don't relapse at some point.

You're trading all that to give someone another chance who already had 4 chances to change their ways, ruined the fun for a lot of people, yet still decided to do the exactly same thing again.
2nd chances, yes. Always.
3rd, okay.
But after that, it gets a bit too far. (edited)

As far as RDM and Leave ban, they are better than slaying
for example
lets say ive been playing for 2 hours with no T round
then I become a T and I get RDMed
and the asshole has the nerve to leave
wont even spend a round slain on the server
its deserving of a ban
and it gives satisfaction to the person who got RDMed

I did some housekeeping in the lead forum.
New subforum: Lead Archive - Meant for all old public threads or just archived stuff in general. Anything that we might wanna go back to at some point, but admins don't need access to.
I also went through all threads in the lead discussion forum and moved about 100 to either the archive or the trash.
Also updated descriptions to make it clear what each one is meant for.
