This worked for me on defy+ (DPF-231 BL7)

- download RSD Lite v4.9 from http://tiny.pl/hp1gg) and install on windows (vista in my case)
- download mod zips from http://defy-cm.net/ and save them on sd card
- system wipe twice
- flash 4.5.1-134 DFP-231 Retail.en.EU CEE (http://tiny.pl/hp1hv)
- system wipe once
- flash 4.5.1-134 DFP-231 Retail.en.EU CEE Rooted SBF (http://tiny.pl/hp1hb)
- install busybox from android store
- install 2nd init for defy by navigating android browser to http://tiny.pl/hp1h7 and then select up to date version
- reboot and press vol down when blue led flashes
- select custom recovery (volume rocker up/down + power button to select)
- wipe again
- install zip from sd card
- select your zip image
- reboot
- use ADB (works only over network - adb connect 123.123.123.123) to replace battd with one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320330
