  1. Dream from 2022-04-10
  2.
  3. The dream started with me being in an unknown city, and with a few others whom I knew. We were to attend a convention.
  4.
  5. One of the group had a car, which I think was just a chassis. The top lifted off completely, and it was a bit cartoon-like how the top could be lost and later regained while driving around.
  6.
  7. Anyway, using this car violated some rule, and the mass surveillance in the city meant that the authorities were surely aware of the violation and already closing in on our position.
  8.
  9. The group had to decide whether to stick together or flee separately. We splintered into a couple of pairs and two singlets, and I was one of the singlets.
  10.
  11. I fled alone to the docks, and felt relatively safe there, but there was only one road through the docks making it very one dimensional. I was acutely aware that I could be trapped there, but I felt that I couldn't go back now. So I followed this long road right around on foot, until it looped around at the end and I could get to where my car was parked.
  12.
  13. I drove to the other side of the city and looked for a place to park, but there was nowhere as it was very busy due to the convention and it's satellite events. I came to a concrete underpass, and there was just enough space on either side to park, just before the tunnel opening. I parked my car on the left. And another from my group pulled up alongside me and parked on the opposite side.
  14.
  15. The road here was very busy and it didn't feel like a safe place to park at all, as cars would come whizzing around into the underpass. My friend was worried that his car would be hit by a passing car, so he tried to move it tighter to the wall. He then had the brilliant idea of doing a wheelie in it, and putting the front two wheels of his car up against the concrete wall, so he could bring the back further in from the road. He succeeded in doing this.
  16.
  17. A random stranger who was also desperate to park saw this trick and tried his own variation - getting his car on it's left two wheels and up against the side wall behind my friend's car. Then another random someone tried to copy the wheelie trick, but ended up with his car humped on top of my friends car. It was all a bit of a disaster...
  18.
  19. ...and with that the concrete wall broke, and the front wheels of my friends car fell through the hole in the wall.
  20.
  21. Upon closer inspection, we found that the wall wasn't concrete at all, but wood, just painted to look like concrete. That explained why it broke with these cars lent up against it... but there was also this secret room through the hole. Curiousity got the better of me and I stepped through.
  22.
  23. It was dark and dingy inside, like somebodies old shed/garage. There was a heavy rustic wooden table in the center of the room with 5 matching chairs around it. A man was seated in one of the chairs, as if waiting for a meal, eager to eat. Then another man approached and welcomed me inside, saying not to worry about the wall.
  24.
  25. He said that he was pleased that I had made it in time, and that this was the first dinner party he had ever hosted, and he really wanted it to be a success, in fact that was the only thing he wanted. In his mind, as long as 5 people were seated and food was served, then it would be a success. He was quite an emotional person, nervous about hosting the gathering, but sincere in his wishes. His desperation apparently made him tolerant of any upset at all, judging from his reaction to the wall.
  26.
  27. He asked me if I had brought the bakewell tarts that I said I would make for dessert. And well... I had actually made bakewell tarts and had them in my car, but that was unrelated... or just a coincidence? I had never seen this guy before, nor the very serious looking dude who was seated patiently waiting at the table. "Yes" I said, "I brought the bakewells with me".
  28.
  29. He was visibly relieved, and confided in me that he was fearful that I might have forgotten. He carefully explained how each diner was bringing one course for the party, and that he just wanted it all be be a success.
  30.
  31. My friend had vanished at this point. Apparently I was at a dinner party now. The seated guest was introduced to me as Blade.
  32.
  33. The host explained that two others would arrive soon: Evil Mary, and Cork.
  34.
  35. Blade bluntly asked me what my favourite meat from an animal was. I explained that I didn't have meat. He said that his favourite was pork, because it tasted most like human flesh. He then asked if I had ever tasted human flesh, and I explained that no, I hadn't. It was a bit of an unsettling introduction.
  36.
  37. Evil Mary was the next to arrive. She was a very scary individual, who didn't speak. But she had a deathly stare that I didn't want to invite a second time. It was a special skill she had, that she could silently drain the life energy out of people with a look, and feed herself like that. Like a cross between a gorgon and a vampire.
  38.
  39. Then Cork arrived. He was a beast of a man, like the Mancubus of Doom 2. He had heavy facial stubble that seemed to be all over his body. He was like a furry animal that has been shaven and the black bristles all over his body had started growing back. He had a fascination with fire and blood.
  40.
  41. And so all five of us had arrived. The dinner party could begin... although I wasn't sure I wanted to be there.
  42.
  43. I excused myself from the table and stepped into the back room, where the host had first emerged from. This was his food preparation area apparently. I glanced around. It really was like a shed/garage. There was a shelf with cans of spray paint and engine oil on alongside his cooking ingredients.
  44.
  45. The host approached from around the corner, and nervously asked me if there was a problem with the bakewell tarts. I made an excuse, and said that I was concerned that they may not be almondy enough, and that I wanted to check them. He was very panicy, as if I had just pulled a knife on him, but he allowed me to continue. While he was talking to his other guests, I escaped through the door, hurried away and felt relief.
  46.
  47. But then I started to feel guilty. Because it's not nice to walk out on people like that. And I didn't want to ruin his dinner party either, and I knew I would be ruining it. He had planned for 5 people, and without me there would be only 4 people and 1 empty chair where I should be. I could picture the scene. I could picture his disappointment. It was clear that all he wanted in life was for this one dinner party to be a success. I mean he cared more about that than his wall which was wrecked.
  48.
  49. And maybe the guests weren't as scary as they seemed at first glace. I mean, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, and I felt that I was. If I got to know them better I might actually get along with them. Evil Mary's psychic vampirism was certainly a fascinating skill that I'd like to know more about, and so were body bristles. Maybe I was totally overreacting.
  50.
  51. And I felt that if I didn't return, I wouldn't just be ruining the host's dinner party, I'd somehow be ruining his life.
  52.
  53. And so after wrestling with my own morals, I brushed my worries aside, put on my happy face, and decided to go back in, with my plate of five cherry bakewell tarts perched in the palms of my hands...
  54.
  55. To be continued.
