  1. Chapter 7: The Indomitable 「WALL」
  2.
  3.
  4. >Despite clearly being able to see and interact with you it soon turns out that Pinkie, whether purposely or not, is unable to manifest her own stand.
  5. >Though not through lack of trying, if the odd looks you get on the train ride back to Ponyville are any indication.
  6. >Even Twilight seems at a loss when you tell her, even after she hooks Pinkie and Dash up to about half a dozen different machines that she has stuffed in her basement/weird laboratory.
  7. >”Hmm, it’s hard without any prior data to compare it to but, even accounting for Pinkie being, well, Pinkie I’d say it’s a definite possibility.”
  8. >”A definite possibility? That’s the best you can come up with.”
  9. >”As I said, I’d need prior data to confirm any change. Speaking of which, Spike!”
  10. >A few moments pass, and the dragon pokes his head through the doorway at the top of the stairwell.
  11. >”Take a reminder for me to run tests on AJ, Rarity, Fluttershy and myself when we get back from Canterlot so I have baselines to compare to should we develop stands as well.”
  12. >Spike snaps off a salute, then disappears to continue packing.
  13. >With seemingly practiced ease Pinkie slips off the scientific equipment covering her while Dash struggles with the tangle of diodes and electrodes coming off of her.
  14. >”So, what super duper important princess duties are you doing this time?”
  15. >”Oh no princess duties this time thankfully just, uh, personal business.”
  16. >”Well if you need anything we’re not far away.”
  17. >With a grunt of exertion (and a little help from you) Dash finally frees herself.
  18. >”Yea! We’ll be at Canterlot in a snap if you need anything.”
  19. >Twilight smiles, and the three friends share a quick embrace.
  20. >You glance away, and for a moment see a shadow dart across the top of the stairs.
  21. >Seems like Spike knows better to interrupt the girls right now too.
  22.
  23.
  24. >For lack of anything better to do, Pinkie and Rainbow decide to see Twilight off at the train station before trekking back to Sugarcube Corner.
  25. >”What a gip though, you get to see 「ANONYMOUS」 but can’t manifest a stand of your own.”
  26. “Hey, seeing me isn’t reward enough?”
  27. >Pinkie’s gigglesnort is well worth the (jokingly) condescending look that Dash shoots you.
  28. >”And hey, maybe my stand is just something not immediately obvious.”
  29. >”Or it’s shy.”
  30. >The girls laugh but you drown it out as you pause and look up at the window of a nearby house, trying to discern some trace of the human shaped figure you swear you just saw standing in the window.
  31. >”Hey, you alright Anon?”
  32. >You snap out of your state and shake your head.
  33. “I just though… a forget about it. I must be more homesick than I thought.”
  34. >”Aww, how about an extra large muffin when we get back to Sugarcube Corner?”
  35. “I’m fine Pinkie, besides if anyone deserves a treat it’s you.”
  36. >”Yea, we definitely wouldn’t have helped Lonely Heart without you.”
  37. >Pinkie smiles and waves off your comments.
  38. >”Sure you could of, I-oof.”
  39. >You never would have guessed that one filly could floor a full grown mare, but going by the tangle of pink and orange limbs on the ground you guess you were wrong.
  40. >”Scootaloo? What are you doing?! Shouldn’t you be at school.”
  41. >”Rainbow Dash! You’ve got to help! Our substitute's crazy!”
  42. >”Woah, slow down squirt, what substitute?”
  43. >”Well Miss Cheerilee is sick so we have a substitute, Mr Shores but he’s really strict-”
  44. >”That doesn't mean he’s crazy Scoots.”
  45. >”And when Rumble was talking during the lesson a piece of the school wall flew off and pinned his hoof to the desk!”
  46. >You, Dash and Pinkie share a look, and the party pony urges Scootaloo to continue.
  47. >”Then what happened?”
  48. >”Well we all got really scared, even Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon and then he yelled at us and we all decided to run and then there were splinters flying everywhere and me and the rest of the crusaders got away but I don’t know who else did and...and…”
  49. >Scootaloo’s explanation disappears as the filly descends into hyperventilations.
  50. >Rainbow Dash wraps an arm around the frightened filly in an attempt to calm her down.
  51. >”It’s ok squirt. Pinkie Pie’ll take you to Sugarcube Corner and we’ll deal with him.”
  52. >”What?!”
  53. >Dash shoots Pinkie a look, then covers Scootaloo’s ears and then shoots her a strained whisper.
  54. >”You can’t manifest your stand to defend yourself, and it’ll take too long if we both take her.”
  55. >Pinkie puts on a stoic face for a moment, then relents and nods.
  56. >”Yea, that makes sense. Come on Scootaloo, want an extra large muffin?”
  57. >She sniffles, and nods her head to Pinkie’s request.
  58. >”Let’s go then.”
  59. >Pinkie takes Scootaloo’s hoof and the two head off towards Sugarcube Corner.
  60. >As you watch them go you swear you see another vaguely human shadow, this time in a nearby alley, but you wave it off as just nerves.
  61. >”Come on, let’s go.”
  62. >The two of you hoof it (well only you do, ironically, Dash chooses to fly) towards the Ponyville schoolhouse.
  63. >Already there’s a small crowd of ponies clutching frightened children and staring fearfully at the building.
  64. “So, d’you reckon he’s a stand user?”
  65. >”Doesn’t matter. If he isn’t then it just means we can kick his flank easier.”
  66. >Ignoring the questions and warnings of the assembled ponies, you and Dash stride towards the schoolhouse.
  67. >With a swift kick you blow the door inward on it’s hinges, exposing the frazzled looking substitute teacher presiding over a handful of scared looking fillies and colts, all bearing a large chunk of wood stucking then to the ground or their desk.
  68. >“Hey! Teacher!”
  69. ”Leave those kids alone!”
  70. >The stallion turns, flinging the piece of chalk he was holding moments ago towards you.
  71. >”SILENCE!”
  72. >The walls vibrate, and all of a sudden splinters shoot out, aimed straight at you.
  73. >With a flurry of blows you bat the wood away, much to the awe of the students as they see the splinters suddenly fly away from Dash.
  74. >”Oh. You’re one too then? No matter.”
  75. >The stallion breaths out, running a hoof over his mane as he fully turns to face of you.
  76. >”Now that you’ve interrupted my lesson I’ll have to start from the top;”
  77. >Producing another piece of chalk, he moves to the board and starts to write in frantic strokes.
  78. >”Looks like today’s lesson will be a practical one children. Today we’ll be learning about gravity.”
  79. >As if on cue, more splinters fly at you and again you knock them away as Shores speaks.
  80. >”Gravity acts upon all objects, and is affected by their mass. An object with greater mass will have greater weight because of gravity’s effect on it. However, what if the gravitational force of an object with larger mass were transferred to one with a lower one?”
  81. >You and Dash throw yourselves forward and once again the walls shake as more wood breaks off only to fly at you.
  82. >Without even trying you deflect them...
  83. >Leaving you open to the ones now coming at you from behind.
  84. >You swear, considering the kid’s can’t hear you, as the larger chunks drive themselves into Dash’s limbs.
  85. >”The ability to channel gravity’s effect from an object to its fragments. That’s my power, and that is the reason you will never beat 「THE WALL」!”
  86. >Dash ignores Shores’ rambling, spitting out the congealed blood in her mouth and leaving a red streak at his hooves.
  87. >”I am getting really sick of having to deal with splinters.”
  88. >”My apologies, but I work with the materials I’m provided.”
  89. >The stallion smiles as you pull the makeshift stakes out of Dash and fling them away.
  90. >”If you’d prefer something different, I can accommodate however.”
  91. >The shaking intensifies, and the windows shatter, filling the classroom with a thousand glittering shards that hang in the air for a moment before flying straight at the two of you.
  92. >Knowing that you have no hope of hitting them all out of the air, you do the first thing that comes to your head and grab the chalkboard, ripping off a chunk to use as a makeshift shield.
  93. >Swinging it through the air, you feel the reverberation as each piece of shattered glass hits it and feel the pain feedback as the pieces you can’t catch break through and slice Dash.
  94. >An ethereal tug pulls the blackboard piece away from your grip and sends it clattering across the classroom floor.
  95. >”Now class, can any of you tell me where Ms Dash went wrong in attacking me?”
  96. >”Oh, oh! Sir!”
  97. >All heads whip towards the back of the classroom, where Pinkie sits, hoof pointed in the air.
  98. >”Is it because she didn’t bring a friend to help her?”
  99. >”Pinkie?!”
  100. >”「THE WALL」!”
  101. >Pinkie slides forwards, rolling under the desk as the splinters fly at her only to embed themselves in the furniture.
  102. >”Hah! You think you can dodge that easily? You have no idea of the power of 「THE -”
  103. >”「THE FLOOR」!”
  104. >The hay Mr Shores is standing on flies upwards, followed shortly by splinters from the floorboards beneath it.
  105. >The stallion’s perforated body rises, the falls back down, his weight breaking the weakened wood and sending him falling into the basement.
  106. >You and Dash just stare as Pinkie walks over to the two of you, a shadowy figure rising from the floor beside her and resolving itself as a very human and very female shape.
  107. >”Pinkie…”
  108. “Your stand…”
  109. >”Oh yea. Anon, Rainbow Dash, meet 「ANONYMISS」.”
  110. “Anony-what?”
  111. >”Didn’t you just say it was-”
  112. >”「THE FLOOR」? Yea. That’s because I was facing Mr Grumpy Pants down there.”
  113. >Pinkie nods towards the hole.
  114. >”What do you mean it was because you were facing him?”
  115. >”Because, silly, different stand users effect the appearence of 「OUR LAWYER MADE US CHANGE THE NAME OF THIS STAND SO WE WOULDN'T GET SUED」.”
  116. >Pinkie’s stand gives a curt wave as you and Dash just sit there in disbelief for a few moments before Dash just shames her head and gives a pained laugh.
  117. >”Only you Pinkie. Only you.”
  118. >”Ahahaha!”
  119. >You all spin to face the hole to find Shores now perched on the edge of it.
  120. >”It was a good attempt, but I’m afraid the both of you will have detention for the re-”
  121. >Both you and Pinkie’s stand fly forward, your fists colliding with Shores’ chin before he has a chance to finish.
  122. >The stallion flies up like a rocket, straight through the school’s roof and into the bell with a resounding clang.
  123. “I think you should take some sick leave.”
  124. >Pinkie’s stand nods in agreement, then melts away, becoming an indistinct shadow before disappearing completely.
  125. >The ringing bell seems to break the spell, and all of a sudden concerned parents stream through the open door, followed closely by doctors as they rush to their children’s side.
  126. >The doctors rush to Dash’s side as well, working their healing magic even as they load her onto a stretcher (despite her complaints) and carting her off to Ponyville Hospital.
  127. >Not that the two of you are there for long. Within a couple of days Dash is on her feet again, a little sore but good as new.
