  1. Ben Carter, a retired Aerospace Engineer, enjoyed his job. His job required him to study the planning, development, and production of aircraft and spacecraft. Therefore, the job requirements included knowledge and expertise in research and experimentation. Additionally, his job required mental acuity, diligence, and curiosity. In his job, he must solve the many mysteries common in the Aerospace industry.
  2.
  3. Ben Carter relates a story about a time when he and his wife, Sarah, were out together celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. As they were leaving from dinner at a restaurant, Sarah was about to step into the path of a reckless driver. Ben called to her, but she proceeded into the car’s path because she failed to hear Ben’s warning.
  4.
  5. In an attempt to shield Sarah from danger, Ben stepped out in front of the vehicle and waved his arms.
  6.
  7. The car hit them and sent them flying through the area. They landed about six feet away slightly bruised and sore for quite some time.
  8.
  9. This is not a story of Ben as hero; it is a story about Sarah’s hearing. Both Ben and Sarah knew her hearing had been declining for quite some time, but this incident was an awakening. Sarah’s hearing issue now could potentially be life threatening.
  10.
  11. Ben and Sarah consulted a physician who recommended either the use of a hearing aid or a surgical implant. Sarah chose the hearing aid yet seldom wore it. As days went by, Sarah’s hearing worsened as did her frustration and bitterness.
  12.
  13. One day, Ben stopped to visit his mother in the nursing home. His mother also had hearing difficulties. She said that she could hear better if she could get some of her “Grandmother’s Remedy.” Out curiosity, Ben inquired about the remedy.
  14.
  15. His mother related that once her grandfather who worked for the railroad unknowingly stood near a blast site. When the dynamite burst some rocks nearby to clear a path for the railroad tracks, her grandfather was buried in rock with broken ribs and no hearing due to the very loud blast.
  16.
  17. After her grandfather saw the doctor, he told him that his ribs would heal, but his hearing would likely never return. The man’s wife had relatives who were Navajo Native Americans living in Arizona. She wrote a letter asking for the tribe’s medicine man to tell her what to do to restore her husband’s hearing.
  18.
  19. Later, a package arrived labeled with just the word “Remedy” on the bottle, a recipe for more, and instructions on how to use the concoction. After taking the “Remedy”, the grandfather’s hearing returned.
  20.
  21. Therefore, Ben armed with his natural curiosity set out to find that recipe and instructions. After some looking around, he found it in with a bunch of other recipes. Ben knew that this recipe could be a breakthrough for his wife as well.
  22.
  23. Ben Carter researched each component and carefully analyzed its effect. Soon he was convinced of its safety and made it and convinced his wife to try it. Soon, she was hearing a few more things. Gradually, the recipe improved her hearing greatly. Ben took some of the remedy to his mom in the nursing home as well as his aunt.
  24.
  25. Been wrote a book giving credit to the Navajo medicine man and telling others about his discovery.
