Fate of The World Session 2

"Nyarlathotep?" You repeat taking another swig of your coffee. "I mean, yeah I know about him in some old stories, maybe a game or two. Why?"

"Well...it's not fiction anymore kid. Nyarlathotep is coming and he's right pissed."

"What at me? What did I do?!"

"Well...not you exactly." The man says "From the way Igor put it, Nyarlathotep found out that he's from a place where things were considered a game...he's not happy and so he attempted to come here to your world and wreck things in a fit of rage."

"He was gonna destroy the world? Man, what a bitch." Ace scoffs

"Well, he'd certainly murder a lot of people, but Nyarly would definitely keep some alive. He's basically all of humanity's evil. If all of humanity goes, so does he."

"So what stopped him?" You ask

"Igor's boss. Philemon."

"Philemon?"
"Yeah...he's basically Nyarly's opposite. He blocked Nyarly, in fact, he still is but it won't last, that attack on you today is proof of that."

"But why attack me?!"

"You signed the contract with Igor. You're literally our proxy right now, or at least one of them anyway."

Shit. You're really going to have to take more care in your dreams.

"Look, I get it. Things are pretty wild right now. Hell, even I don't have all the answers. You're better off talking to Igor. He can give a more detailed explanation, better than I can at this point anyway. That aside, I can help you in another way. Igor told me to pass these over to you.

The first thing you receive is a futuristic looking gauntlet, it's sleek and has a few buttons on it here and there.

"What is this thing?"

"Igor called it a COMP. He said it'll be useful in summoning your heroes for help. You know, so you aren't caught off guard and chased into a park?"

"Fair enough..." You reply

"Next is this..."

"Is that a freaking sword?!" You exclaim

"Yes it is. Way better than that pipe you're using. I even threw a little special touch of mine on it. So long as you keep it sheathed, no regular person can tell you're carrying it."

Well that's useful.

"And now most importantly of all are these. This is a gift from me and not Igor. You'll need all the help you can get."

He presents to you, 3 blue...crystals?

"What are these for?" You ask holding the crystals in your hand

"These will help you summon more allies, like I said, I was able to head over to Alrest and swipe some to allow for help with our current predicament. Pretty soon, these things are gonna start popping up all over, so it'll be good of you to be just a little bit ahead of the curve. It works like this: Focus on what you want in an ally. Someone strong, or smart, or durable. Things like that and this crystal will help you call them. It's not 100% though. The links to this world are unstable, and we'd need to go to Igor's place to better our chances.

"Why Igor's place?"

"That room of his is like a nexus. It's connecting out to all manner of different worlds right now. It's how he was able to recruit my help as well as bring Ace here as well. The choice is yours on how you wanna go about it. You could do it right now, or  you could hold onto it until we meet up with Igor. It's up to you."

That's...tempting. You've played some of those mobile games that rely heavily on whales constantly pulling in gachas for their favorite character or some variation thereof. This is kind of the same, except that you've got a way to boost your chances (And you're pretty sure Igor won't screw you over) so there's always that. Of course, you have 3 of the things, so you could use some up now..."

"I'll hold onto them for now. Thanks."

"Alright, that's fine. Now then, take that COMP and put it on and point it at Ace."

"Hey wait, that thing isn't gonna like...kill me right? I've died once already, it's not fun."

"No worries Ace, won't hurt you at all." The man replies "Go on Hiromu."

You place the COMP on your left hand and point it at Ace. He stands resolute if not a bit intimidated still as a light engulfs him. The next moment, Ace is gone, instead his face now appearing on a holographic scream that pops out from the COMP.

"Huh, that wasn't so bad!" He replies with a laugh "Just be sure to let me out at some point yeah? I want some more of that cereal stuff from before. Oh and the sausages! Oh yeah...I ate all your sausages."

...You're gonna have to do some more shopping at some point aren't you?

You sigh. "Well uh...thanks mister. I'm gonna get going now."

"No problem. And it's Hanekoma. Sanae Hanekoma."
It takes you a moment, but finally it clicks for you on just who this guy is, he realizes that you've caught on and only laughs.

"Go on get outta here. Feel free to drop by though, I'll have some of my best brews ready for you."

"Thanks I appreciate it Mr.H."

"For a price of course!" He exclaims with a laugh

...Of course.

You leave the coffee shop and make your way home. It's the longest walk ever, not only because you're farther away from home than usual, but also because you just aren't sure if someone or some thing is gonna jump you. Thankfully, once you make it into your house, your fears are assuaged and you let out a breathe you didn't even know you were holding in.

"Take it easy Hiromu, you can't be stressing out at a time like this." Ace says from your COMP

"I think I'll stress very much thank you."

"Well suit yourself I guess, but seriously, take it easy man, I got your back, and so does Hanekoma."

Well that is comforting at least. You look outside and see that it's still the middle of the day...but even so...

Today has been really trying for you and so you know what you need: Some actual food and drink. That patty was good, but you're sure you worked away any strength you got from that. You take out your phone and order some pizza. Large, Half-cheese, half-ground beef. You take a quick peek in your fridge to see that all your alchohol is gone.

"Heh, sorry about that!" Ace calls out

You grumble and add a 2 liter soda to that order as well. Sitting down on the couch, you turn on the tv and sure enough the local news is covering what went down at the office. You even see a few cops carrying that robot as well as its spear thing out of the place as well. However, the cop carrying it accidentally causes it to fire and it goes right at your car...

At the window that was already cracked.

Which is now shattered...

"I'm gonna friggin' murder that guy." You growl, you can already hear your wallet weeping at the lost of funds and you just turn the channel to some random talk show to help calm your rage. As you sit there, you cast a few glances at your phone, waiting for the text from the delivery guy until you're struck with a realization:

Renee.

She must be worried, or worse, thinks you're dead. You quickly swipe over to your contacts and pick out Renee's name. She'd given you her number when you first met at work, but otherwise you'd never called her until now. You push the call button and it's not even one ring before you get an answer.

"HIRO?!" YOU'RE ALIVE! OH MY GOD!!!! HIROOOOOOOOOOOOO~!"

You can tell she's weeping on the other end and totally overreacting...

Okay this is getting out of hand...

"Renee. Renee, I need you to breathe." Deep breathes okay?

"Ace. Shut up."

She listens to you, taking deep breathes before finally settling down a bit. You get no words from Ace, so you can only assume that he took heed of your words and is currently being quiet.

"Okay...I'm calm now. I'm okay now..." Renee says breathing heavily still "But uh...Hiro I've been meaning to ask something."

"Yeah what's up?"

"What's that thing on your arm?"

Ooooooh crap.

Before you can answer you get a text that your pizza is here. Good, maybe that'll distract her. You excuse yourself and hurry down to the apartment lobby, paying the pizza boy for the food. You through in an extra 5 bucks as a tip  for him. Only seems fair to you. Heading back to the apartment, you see Renee flipping through the tv channels.

"Hey, Renee. Want some pizza?"

"PIZZA!? Of course! You're a real saint Hiro!"

You set the pizza down and quickly take the COMP off, placing it somewhere she won't see and be reminded of it to ask you again.

She starts going to town on the pizz as you sit down, and you take a slice yourself chowing down on the food. It's pretty good, as expected.

You watch as Renee scarfs down her food. It's exactly how she was at lunch today. By the time you've finished two slices, Renee is already working on her fourth.

"Hey Renee...are you having problems budgeting for food?"

At this Renee stiffens up slightly

"H-huh? What do you mean Hiro? I'm doing just fine!"

"Really? I mean, every time we eat you're really packing it away..."

"W-what is that supposed to mean?" She glares

"No-nothing, it's just usually when someone eats like that, it's only when they're really starving."

"I'll have you know I'm fine Hiro. Now eat."

You decide to drop it for now, and instead bring up something else. "So what happened after we split up?"

"I...I kept running. I really wanted to go back, but I just told myself you'd be okay...even though I had convinced myself you'd die. I'm...really sorry Hiro. I should have stayed or...or got the police or something! But now that I think about it...Hiro, how did you get out of that? Your shoulder is okay too!"

You mull it over for a moment and try to think of some lie, but really there's no way you can lie about something like that. So with a deep breathe, you decide to explain everything, the dream you had, talking to Igor, meeting Ace, getting saved by Ace, fighting off the creatures and meeting Hanekoma. When you're done Renee just stares at you.

"And that's it..." You say

"Pffft....Pfffthahahahahaha, Hiro, you're hilarious! That's got to be the funniest story I've ever heard. If you want to say you held out for the police or ran away, that's okay! You don't need to impress me!"

Alright, if she just didn't believe you, that'd be one thing, but the laughing actually sort of pisses you off. You don't say anything and instead get up and slip the COMP onto your arm.

"Hiro? What are you doing?" Renee asked

"You'll see." You say focusing "Yo Ace, wanna come say hello?"

"Heh, sure thing Hiromu."

In a flash, Ace is standing in front of the two of you a smirk on his face.

"Eeeek! A stripper! Hiro, there's a magic stripper!"

Ace frowns. "Dammit, I'm no stripper. I'm Ace. The one Hiromu told you about."

Renee stops for a moment and gets up and pokes him. "H-he's real! His abs are real!"

Oh goddammit Renee

"Yeah...well, now you see that I'm not lying. I don't have the full story myself, but there's this monster that's going to try and wipe us all out. Me and Ace are gonna stop em though."

"Hell yeah we are!" Ace exclaims with a grin

"Wow...so you're like a super hero?! A real Hiro Hero! Teehee.."

You sigh, you really should have seen that coming

Though being called a 'Hiro Hero' is a bit annoying, you can't deny that seeing a girl, much less a pretty one fawn over it is pretty nice.

"Oh yeah, I've got this cool sword too!" You say unsheathing it from your back(You kind of forgot to take it off) and brandishing it in front of her.

"Whoa, can I hold it?" Renee asks

"Sure I guess so." you say handing it to her

"Wow...it's kinda heavy."

"Making her play with your sword already? Hiromu, you dog." Ace teases

"W-w-w-w-what?! No, I didn't mean that! I um...well...h-here you go Hiro! S-sorry!"

She quickly pushes the sword back into your hands nad sits down, blushing pretty hard.

"Man, she's adorable!" Ace laughs

"L-leave me alone you jerk!" Renee pouts

You sigh and sit down, opting to just relax for now and let your body digest the pizza.

"Oh hey, Hiro...do you think they'll let us go back to work tomorrow?"

"Well, not the damages part. But they'll definitely call us in, not to mention that I need to pick up and get my car fixed..."

"Oh yeah...those robots did wreck it."

"So did the police..." you growl

"Huh? What did they do?"

You explain what happened to your back window, at which Renee winces "Ouch...sorry to hear that Hiro, I'd help if I could."

"It's fine, I just may have to dip into my savings."

"You have savings?"

"Course I do. My dad helped out a bit, but I've been saving up some from work as well, so for emergencies I've got a some funds to work with."

"O-oh, you sure are lucky Hiro."

"If I were really lucky, I wouldn't have to spend it at all."

The rest of the day goes on like this, curious, you decide to call up your boss and in a bit of a surprise, you actually don't have to show up to work tomorrow. Huh, talk about lucky. Renee however, looks a bit pensive about that.

"I hope things open back up soon, I wanna see everyone else again and make sure they're okay..."

Before long the sun starts to dip below the horizon and Renee gives you a look, unsure of what to say.

"Er...I guess I'll see you later Hiro?"

"Sure, don't get lost on the way home."

She gets to her feet but fumbles with her skirt a bit "Um...Hiro...?" she says bashfully

"Thanks Hiro, you're the best! C-can I go shower?"

"I mean, I'd rather not have you smell bad if that's fine."

"O-oh! Okay, you got it Hiro, I'll be done before you know it!"

You roll your eyes and leave her to go get freshened up while you continue to watch tv. Nothing like a good few episodes of the Fresh Prince to get you nice and relaxed for the night.

"Hey I been meanin' to ask, but what is that thing anyway?" Ace asks, you'd forgotten about him, but he'd been just milling around, drinking some of the soda and occasionally poking at other things in the house.

"Huh, the TV? You use it to watch things. It's for entertainment basically. Well among other things, like information sharing."

"Huh, cool. I can only imagine the kind of stuff pirates could use this for."

"That'd...be interesting actually." you say rubbing your chin "I can only imagine what Luffy would get up to."

"Knowing him? He'd be bored with it and just want food."

Sounds about right.

Ace lets out a yawn "Look, I'm gonna call it for the day. Any trouble and you know what to do."

You nod, hopefully, what Hanekoma said about your apartment being safe is true and in a flash of light, Ace is back in your COMP.
As for you, you continue watching some tv, the sound of shower running in the background. It's kinda soothing actually. You....you can stay up.

You totally can...it's only what 8pm? You never fall asleep this early. you do your best to stay up, but you slowly drift to sleep.

Your eyes open blearily before you realize that you're in the velvet room.

his time, you aren't as confused. Sitting across from you is Igor, with that same smile on his face.

"I-Igor?" You say with a yawn

"Indeed it is I. Hello there Hiro, I am dreadfully sorry for what you suffered through so far."

"That contract better have included hazard pay. Those things really messed up my car. Though, I doubt you had much to do with that."

At this Igor lets out a laugh. It's oddly calming despite his looks "If that is all my friend, then I can make arrangements for that at the very least." He snaps his fingers, and you expect something to happen...but nothing does.

"Uh...what was that?"

"Worry not. It has been handled, now then we have much to talk about. But first, I should bring in our future prospect."

"Future prospect? What do yo-"

With another snap of his fingers, you feel someone suddenly next to you, who begins to stir

"F-five more minutes...wait...what the...where am I?! Hiro, you're here too?!"

"Renee...?! Igor, please don't tell me."

"Indeed, she is another potential proxy for us. Believe it or not, we tried to reach her first actually, right  before you."

"What stopped you?"

"The girl had way too much drink." Igor laughs

You look over to Renee who blushes lightly  "Don't say anything..."

You're sure as hell gonna think it though...

"Now then, I believe Hanekoma has given a very basic rundown of our predicament. However, what questions do you have? I will happily answer."

>Did you pick us for proximity to the bad shit happening, or are we "special"?

"Alright then, did you pick us for proximity to all this happening, or are we 'special'?" you ask

"Hmmm, a bit of an interesting question that is. It is not out of the question to say that you are both special in some  way. Your adapting to the current situation speaks for that. However, Nyarlathotep planned to use this particular city as a springboard for his aspirations. So to say that you weren't picked due to proximity would not be truthful.

"Is there anyone else we should know about? Anyone else you've 'recruited'?" Renee asks

"Alas no. So far, we have not found any other suitable prospects. For the time being at least. I expect that as things wear on, we shall be able to ask others to aid us."

"Is there anyone else from my job you got in touch with?" You ask

"Aside from miss Byrd here, I am afraid not. A stroke of luck we found you two at all. For now, should she accept, you and Ms.Byrd shall be the ones to face the growing dangers."

You reach into your pocket and show Igor the crystal.

"These, how do we get more of them?"

"Ah yes, I was told that Hanekoma procured some for you to use. Not a bad idea given who we are contending with. Worry not, for soon these things shall appear all over your city. Be wary though, as most assuredly enemy agents will find some as well. No doubt enemies may carry them, or you may simply find some lying around. We were able to rewrite their original purpose from how they are used in Alrest and they will be most sufficient in aiding you. Before we continue forward though...Ms.Byrd, I ask you: Are you willing to aid us? If so, then please sign this contract.

Like with you, A contract appears in front of Renee, Igor awaiting her answer

"Do not worry Ms.Byrd, you are free to decline. We do not believe in force here, no matter how dire the situation may be..."

"I see...well...um..." Renee says hesitating

"Go for it Renee." You say with a reassuring nod

"R-really? You really think I can do it Hiro?"

"Well, it's like Igor said, things are going to go to hell in a hand basket sooner or later and we don't know if those things will try to attack us at work again or anywhere else. The more firepower we have the better."

"Yeah....yeah you're right. I can do this. We can do this, we'll show this Nyarlo guy not to mess with us Hiro!"

With renewed resolve Renee signs the contract, the paper disappearing shortly after.

"I see, we thank you for help. Both of you, now there is much to discuss. I suppose we should start with-"

"Hang on, not so fast." Comes a familiar voice

"Ah, Mr. Hanekoma, welcome."

You watch as Hanekoma seemingly walks in from nowhere, his hands in his pockets.

"I think before you get on with the explanation, you should allow us to sit in as well. "Hey, are Mirei, you willing to listen?"

Coming from behind him is very pretty woman, you uh...weren't expecting that. She fixes her glasses for a minute before speaking "Of course Mr.Hanekoma, I am ever so curious as to how the connection between worlds could weaken so significantly for events such as this to unfold.

"I am sorry about that, truly I am. Once again, I am thankful for your help." Igor says

"It is no problem. This is something unprecedented and if we can help, I'm sure Hanekoma is more than willing to lend his aid."

"Very well, now then...how shall we begin Mr.Kazuchika?"

"Alright, what kind of dangers will we face? What will Nyarly use against us?"

At this Igor folds his hands in contemplation, thinking for a moment. "Who can say? He may very well use all sorts of means against you and this world. Demons, humans, even robots as you've seen. Nyarlatheotep will use whatever he can to his advantage.

"Okay...why can I summon Ace from One Piece? He's an anime character, not a Persona."

Igor laughs at your words "But that is percisely the reason you can summon him forth my friend!" Igor says once he's finished

"What? I don't get it?"

"This is how Nyarlatheotep attempted to outdo my master Philemon. You see, in my world, there was a group of young people who managed to defeat him by drawing on the power of their Personas. The personification of an aspect of one's soul. As he wallowed in his defeat for years, he turned his eyes towards a new world...yours."
Igor lets the words hang in the air for a moment, before he continues "Upon learning that he was but considered fiction in your world, Nyarlatheotep grew enraged, ready to bring this world to its knees for what he percieved as a slight against him. However, never far behind my master Philemon held him at bay and offered him a bet somewhat similar to that with which he took part in within my world."

"A bet?! We're part of a bet?!" Renee growls "So it's just some game to them?!"

"Be at ease." Igor says raising his hand "My master being an embodiment of the rightousness of humanity knows how best to handle Nyarlatheotep for they are diffent sides of the same coin. Nyarlatheotep agreed to the bet on the condition, that those chosen by us and by extension Philemon could not be given the power to draw on one's Persona."

Well that explains your lack of one...

"However, my master, realizing that this would leave humanity vulnerable drew on another power known to man: Fantasy. Humans are extremely creative creatures. Take Ace, Myself,Mirei, and Hanekoma. It is true, we are but considered fiction in your world, however our worlds are in fact realities woven by humanity and so we are in fact 'real' in a sense. With this being the case, Philemon has made it so that we can summon these heroes from different worlds to aid yours in this time."

"Heh, it's nothing kid. Now that I got the full picture, I can't just leave you out to dry."

"Likewise." Mirei adds "This is world-ending on a scale I've not seen before. I will be happy to lend my assistance to the best of my abilities."

"So wait..." Renee pipes up "Couldn't Nyarlo use that power too? Summon up some bad guys to help him?"

"An astute observation. Indeed he can and most likely already has." Igor says "It is not unwise to suspect that he has his own allies working in roles similar to that of Hanekoma and Mirei."

"Well can't we just summon some of your past guests? We can let them use their own Personas instead."

"No...alas our guests cannot be summoned as Philemon has told me. If they were, Nyarlatheotep would undoubtedly use it as justifcation to forgoe the deal and wreak untold havoc on your world without delay.

Fuck. You'd played Personas 3-5, so you know for a fact that if you got any of those guys on your team, they'd have been a big help.

"Is there anything else? Or shall we move on so that you both may see the functions that Ms.Mirei has for you?"

"Just one more question: Will I only be able to come here in my sleep? Shouldn't there be a door or something that I can use to come here?"

"A good question indeed. Do not worry, You will see the entrance to the velvet room whenever you have need of our services. Also, just check your closet.

What the fuck...whatever, you'll just go with it

"I've got no more questions then. What about you Renee?"

She shakes her head, her questions having been answered as well

"Very well. Mirei, if you would?"

"Very well. If you two would follow me." Mirei says motioning for you to follow her

Getting out of your seats, the two of you get up and follow behind her, moving from the main area and going through one of the doors and now being a a circular room with a lone table in the middle.

"My job here is to help you summon more heroes with the cores you acquire. The method is simple: Focus with all your being as best you can on what kind of ally you would like. Using my power, I shall do my best to make the hero you desire appear. Which of you wishes to go first? I know you've got a few spares Mr.Hiro."

You look to Renee, who says she's willing to go along with whatever you decide.

"You're up Renee, go for it!"

"Okay, I won't let you down Hiro!" Renee exclaims with a determined smile

She steps forward, somewhat timidly at first, but once in front of the table she's found her resolve again.

"Okay then. Hold the crystal and focus Renee. Focus on the hero you want, something that you feel you can identify with. Focus on that and nothing else."

"Okay...focus...focus..." Renee mutters as she holds onto the crystal, it begins to glow vibrantly, the glow growing brighter and brighter until you can barely see.

"That's it! Now, come forth!" Mirei exclaims

When the glow fades away, you see a figure you never expected to be standing in front of Renee

"Nice to meet you Renee!" Sailor Moon says with a smile "I've been brought up to speed on the situation, so lets do our best together okay?" she holds out a hand offering a handshake to her, however Renee is silent for a moment.

"Er...Renee are you-"Sailor Moon starts

"OH. MY. GOD!" Renee shouts quickly hugging Sailor Moon "I...I never thought I'd meet you! I'm...I'm so happy!"

"Breathe...Can't breathe!" Sailor Moon huffs

Alright, as much as you can understand her enthusiasm, you decide to save Sailor Moon some trouble and pry Renee off of her.

"T-thanks..." She says breathing "I...didn't expect that to happen."

"You'll find that you're pretty popular in our world. Hell you're an icon in fact."

"Really? So I'm like super rich and famous?!" she replies clapping her hands together

"Well, not the rich part anyway, but famous? Definitely."

A bit downtrodden at the not being rich part, Sailor Moon nevertheless shows happiness at being a famous figure.

"Alright, my turn then. You two wait over there yeah?"

Renee nods, eagerly talking to Sailor Moon about how she watched her show back in the day, and now it's your turn to step forward.

"Hi! I...I know things are tough, but I'll do my best to help you as much as I can! My name's Reisalin Stout, but you can just call me Ryza."

"Not a bad helper to call. Now then, Hiromu, there is another use for these crystals." Mirei states

"Yeah, what's that?"

"Instead of using them to call forth new heroes, you can use them to power up existing ones, making them stronger in battle."

"I see...sort of how you use dupes of characters to level up one in a mobile game!"

"In a manner of speaking yes. The choice is yours of course. You have two crystals left, how you choose to use them is up to you."

You turn to Renee's side and suggest that you and get out of here if there's nothing else to do. Leaving the summoning room, you return to the main area where Igor is still sitting.

"Ah, I see you are done with Mirei. I hope she was helpful to you?"

"She was!" Renee squeals clinging tightly to Sailor Moon

"Please stop that already." Sailor Moon sighs

Igor laughs at the exchange "I see you two are getting along already. Well then, I believe this is where we part for now. Remember, our doors are always open, just check your closet when at home...or you'll see us while you're out and about."

You feel yourself starting to fade away...are you waking up now?

When you regain consciousness, you're indeed in your apartment on the couch...and it's already 9AM. Huh, you wonder how Renee is doing.
