- Lone Traveler Ophilia Solo Route Notes [Non-Cait]
- Last Updated: Oct. 10, 2022
- Contact: AnimeGamer#1297 on Discord if you'd like to reach me
- Status: Complete with sample video.
- Sample Video: https://youtu.be/vl3BUBuHGEM (this doesn't match the route below fully but is close enough that it should suffice. There's other solo Ophi videos on the channel if you want more references.)
- This is the most up to date non-cait route for solo Ophi. You don't need a Cait for this, but it does require the Buffer Glitch. The primary change is cutting Wellspring and Victor's Hollow and using more M stones in place of L Stones.
- If you do get an early Cait, you can look at the pastebin notes with the Cait route changes (https://pastebin.com/KfVsh2zS) or just use this Non-Cait one instead and skip the WW section mainly. The primary difference with the Cait route is that it skips all extra encounters outside of C2/Reptalios and uses Flurry to do an early FoP + Wispermill trip from the Scholar Shrine (selling Cat's Eye for the Adam shield), as it cuts Hunter/Noblecourt as well.
- Note: Prepare Buffer glitch beforehand if you need setup/practice
- Notation:
- TP = Teleport
- C = Chapter
- x2,x3,x4 = boost with 1 BP, 2 BP, or the max 3 BP respectively. x1 is not used but would be 0 BP and a normal move.
- S+Q = Save and Quit and reenter the game to reset/reload the encounter rate
- Reload/Reset = usually exit and reenter a screen to reset the encounter rate
- Buffer Glitch = use the Buffer Glitch to gain access to an item or area - see https://youtu.be/0XlAM3mTu0Q
- Skills may be abbreviated, such as Merchant's Hired Help as HH, Lightning Blast as LB, etc
- Settings/Technical Things (recommended, but you can play how you want):
- - Japanese Audio
- - Message Speed Quick
- - Revert to Original (Battle Cursor Position)
- - Preload Before a Run (Start a new game with any character and exit to the menu, since the first load is slowest)
- - Note that loading games directly from console is usually faster than loading from an SD/memory card
- - Always Hold B to Skip Cutscenes, unless the textbox/scene is so short that it's faster to mash (Ex: usually 1-2 textbox scenes; if you close the textbox as it fades, you store a skipped textbox to skip next one) Also, oftentimes, you can buffer movement by holding the analog stick you're about to move in before the cutscene/transition ends.
- ==============================================================================================
- Start Ophilia 1 and do the story Guide and scenes
- Buy and Equip Quartz Rod
- Guide Tavern Patron (Summons Winds)
- Go to the Cave of Origin's boss
- You can optionally break, flee, or fight encounters on the way. You need 130 JP after WW and usually need at least some extra encounters after WW unless you get a lucky Cait. The enemies in the Path/Cave are weak though, so the only one I'd suggest maybe taking is the Wolf in the cave (Staff->Holy Light x3) or just Fleeing everything.
- Guardian of the First Flame (1,924 HP)
- T1: Summon
- T2+: Staff x1 repeatedly to break
- T3+: Holy Light x4 when it's broken
- (Re-Summon asap, and repeat again to KO, may adjust to x3 or not need second summon depending on damage ranges.)
- Should not usually need to heal but may do so if desired/in danger
- (30% Shadow S drop, you can use it freely to help speed up JP grind a bit)
- Finish cutscenes for C1
- Guide Flurry NPC when leaving Flamesgrace, ignore Kit
- Optionally KO good encounters for some JP going to Scholar Shrine, Flee or Break+Flee from others:
- - ants give 12 JP: Staff to break, then Holy Light x3 (x2 is enough if you're a Scholar job or L5), defend, repeat
- - frogs/meep give 4-5 JP: summon flurry guy, Holy Light x2/x3 when broken; frogs are weak to Ice if you have Scholar
- - squirrels outside Flamesgrace are weak to Bows/Flurry
- Walk into Scholar Shrine (if you get the encounter, summon and hope for 3/4 hit Flurry to break and Flee)
- Optional Menu (but recommended to help with grinding and to help vs Howlers):
- - Job to Scholar, Learn Lightning Blast
- Tag Noblecourt (Flurry + Flee again or YOLO flee), exit to get Light M
- TP Flamesgrace, go to Whistlewood (optionally grind encounters on the way)
- In WW, grind 1 battle w/ Light M (LB before Howlers or Flurry if you couldn't afford it)
- (You don't need the 1500, just the battle.)
- Grind extra if needed (ants fall to LB x2 and the best for normal encounter JP)
- Menu:
- - Learn any 1 Scholar Skill and put on Evasive Maneuvers
- Tag Cobbleston, go toward Stonegard
- Get Light M and reset screen downward before tagging Stonegard
- Go toward Marsalim
- Get Thunder L outside Marsalim Catacombs
- Enter Catacombs
- Get Rev Jam
- Buffer Glitch for Master's Spear
- Tag Marsalim
- Get 3 chests in palace
- TP Stonegard (optionally reset screen downward again or safety save on way to Moonstruck)
- Enter Moonstruck Coast to get Merchant Shrine (force encounter on the way or if you skip it, you can force the encounter on the Goldshore screen next, using the time to get the Thunder M sooner)
- Thunder L to KO pirates encounter
- Tag Goldshore
- Enter West Grandport Coast
- Get Wind L
- Go back one screen
- Get Thunder M
- Reenter West Grandport Coast
- Get 20k
- S+Q
- Get Thunder L
- Tag Grandport
- Enter Loch
- Optionally get leftside Pom L and exit and reenter (not mandatory but can be nice safety vs Matty)
- Get Wind L + 30k
- TP Grandport
- Get Silver-Filled Pouch + 25k + Dazzling Artwork
- TP Flamesgrace
- Get Hunter Shrine
- Head to Southern Northreach Wilds and force encounter in Western Stillsnow map (KO w/ Thunder L)
- Menu:
- - Equip + Optimize
- - Job Merchant + Hired Help + Sidestep
- - Put on Endless Items
- - Remove Evasive Maneuvers
- (If you have excess 130 JP, you can Job to Hunter and learn Arrowstorm + 1 more to get Heighten Senses on early; just end on Merchant as we need HH coming up)
- Enter Southern Northreach map and go toward Maw, forcing encounter on the way
- 2 Reptalios: HH Bandits x2 then L Stone
- Menu:
- - Job to Hunter, learn 1 skill + Arrowstorm
- - Job to Cleric, learn Reflective Veil
- - Job to Merchant
- - Put Evasive Maneuvers back on
- - Put on Heighten Senses
- Get 30k in Maw, exit and go toward Northreach
- Get battle on way to Northreach of 2 Reptalios lizards again: HH Bandits x2, then L Stone again
- Tag Northreach
- Buffer glitch to get Ice M outside Lorn Cathedral
- (may optionally get Plum M outside too for Mattias but is rarely needed)
- Enter Lorn and loot these 4 in order (note that HHB x2 breaks Brigand Leader I/II, letting you flee)
- - Pom L (second map, go left past save point)
- - Gleaming Amulet (go back one scree from Pom L chest, and its at very bottom of steps)
- - Refreshing Jam (go to second map again go down-left on the path to Darius but midway ish, follow steps next to fifth torch to reach a back wall that has hidden passage left; go up from there to get the Jam)
- - Void Amulet (from Jam, go right past the first doorway and it's the chest at the end of the passage)
- TP Noblecourt
- Job Hunter
- Enter Forest of Purgation, get Tempest Amulet + Light L, exit
- Get Pom M
- Get Cat's Eye
- Tag Wispermill (Arrowstorm + Flee encounter)
- Get Thunder M
- Buy Adamantine Shield
- [If you somehow are not Level 15 yet for the upcoming quest, you can TP and use any EI duped L stones to KO more Reptalios outside outside Northreach or you can use M Stones/HH wherever you see fit. HHB x2 + M Stone leaves the bull outside Stonegard with very light HP if you'd like to grind that.]
- TP Stonegard
- Do Royal Crest Quest [Guide Stonegard Valley's Patrician Youth near church to Stonegard Height's questgiver]
- Menu:
- - Equip + Optimize + Royal Crest + Gleaming Amulet
- - Job Merchant
- TP Cobbleston
- Tag Saintsbridge, fleeing encounters on way there
- Do C2
- (You don't need the chest near the boy or the 3.5k because the route has excess money, unless you HHB a lot.)
- DO NOT USE THE LIGHT L ON ANY RANDOM ENCOUNTERS.
- Go toward Murkwood.
- In Murkwood Trail, KO encounter with M Stone + HHB x3
- Heal HP before entering Murkwood
- KO Murkwood encounter with L stone if it EI proc'd (NOT Light L though)
- If no L Stones EI proc'd, use 2 M Stones (Thunder M KOs howlers outright)
- Heal to full HP before Hrodvitnir.
- Note 1: This battle uses 60.3k and 2 weakness 1430 M Stones of Ice/Thunder/Light, depending on what you have leftover in your inventory. I recommend throwing Light M first, then Ice M, then Thunder M, as Light/Ice M are not as useful vs Mattias, and Light is closer to the bottom of the inventory. I will write this assuming Light/Ice are thrown, but you can interchange any of the 3 elements.
- Note 2: If you somehow used up your M stones without any dupes, you can swap with T3's Light M with Thunder L if you have one. If you don't have a Thunder L, you can swap with the Light L you have and get the backup Starseer Light L after this chapter is over. (TP to Wispermill, enter Starseer Shrine, get Light L on left side.)
- Hrodvitnir (uses 2 M of Ice/Thunder/Light interchangeably, 60.3k)
- T1: HHM (can swap w/ Light M if Ophi is first T2 to increase tankability and chance of skipping a turn)
- T2: HHM
- T3: Light M (if you did Light M on T1, do HHM here instead)
- T4: Defend (can swap w/ Ice M if Ophi is first on T5 to save a turn or 650+ HP and between Hrod's actions on T5)
- T5: HHV x4
- T6: HHV x3
- T7: Ice M (only needed if you were unable to toss stone on T4)
- Finish Ophi 2 [You need a Light L for C3 boss, so get Starseer or Everhold Light L if you used the FoP one]
- TP Goldshore and do Ophi 3: get 4500 chest + Pom M chest
- After the church cutscene, TP Flamesgrace to Guide Mother in cathedral
- In Road to Seaside Grotto, optionally save on the way to the cave (recommended)
- Enter cave and about midway through, S+Q on right side of Save Point
- Then run to the next Save Point right before boss and Save again. (Heal HP to max if needed beforehand.)
- Note: You usually need Inhibit for T4/T5 Vets to KO with the Light L on T6 and may need to retry a few times to get through this fight. Having L17 is nice for tanking a combination of unboosted fire + ice to increase winning patterns, but this depends on random encounters you got and wasn't worth forcing extra battles earlier to get.
- MMSF:
- T1: Sidestep x2 (if Ophi first on T2, you can swap and do T1: Summon and T2: Sidestep x3)
- T2: Summon
- T3: Rev Jam (Pom L if only damaged by weak light attacks)
- T4: HH Vets x4
- T5: HH Vets x3
- T6: Light L
- T7: reset and retry, or Light L if it EI duped and you had Inhibit with x4 Vets (this'll be a range)
- [It may be possible to stall with Sidestep/Grape/Reflective Veils to hope for Inhibits, but it is very RNG and may be better to just retry.]
- Finish Ophi 3
- Equip + Void + Tempest (Job'ing to Hunter should've removed the Master's Spear earlier)
- TP Wispermill
- Shop:
- - Sell for money: Master's Spear, Black Staff, Stimulating Bracelet, Royal Crest, Gleaming Amulet, Quartz Rod if needed, etc.
- - Do not sell plums, jams, poms, or stones.
- - Need 88,927+ (if short, go in C4 dungeon to get and sell first chest Giant's Club for 13k)
- Do Ophi 4's cutscenes and go straight into Ebony Grotto
- Heal HP to max (heal SP too if you will not level off the first battle, but it's guaranteed to level Ophi up if you're below level 20)
- [Level 20 is 535 exp to level up to level 21, and the first battle gives 528 exp total w/ the break bonus]
- S+Q before Mattias
- Get 30k
- Optionally Save again (not usually recommended)
- Pre-Mattias Battle:
- T1: Defend
- T2: HH Vets x3
- Should level off this fight so you're full HP + SP going into Mattias
- Mattias:
- General idea: Get Sidesteps up, toss all your stones, summon a lot and use Reflective Veil as much as possible when you have Defense Down stacks up. Also, do Vets damage early to bring him to 1 shield. Use Poms + Rev/Ref Jam liberally but smartly and efficiently to chip him down without breaking before bursting him down in one go.
- We want an early 3x inhibit'd Vets to bring him to 1 shield and do ~14.5k damage to accelerate his early phase and not have to do as many Reflective Veils.
- [If you are level 19, it is a range to wipe from Mattias' base attack crit, but at level 20, you are guaranteed to be safe.]
- T1: Pom M
- T2: Sidestep x4
- T3: Pom M
- T4: Sidestep x4
- T5+: Toss excess Thunder/Wind M+L stones/Sidestep x1 as BP builds up
- T6+: when at 3-4 BP, Summon NPC then when at full BP, do Reflect x4, Reflect x1, Reflect x4 (do Reflect x1 sooner if Inhibit goes up and then when at full BP, do x4, x1, x4 Reflects to maximize BP usage)
- T7+: Pom L then do either Sidestep x4 or Reflect x4 (if Inhibits are up)
- T8+: Vets x3 when Inhibit is up at some point to get him to 1 shield (better for BP if you do this right after x4 or when you've built up to 2 BP)
- T9+: Refreshing Jam if/when HP and SP both get low
- ...
- T20+: Vets x4->Vets x3 to KO when he's at 1 shield w/ Defense Down and activated Infernal Prayer previously with 8k damage afterward
- Keep tossing excess Thunder/Wind M+L Stones and Sidestep/Summon NPC as needed. Do not toss Ice/Light as that'll break him, and you'll likely lose.
- You shouldn't usually need more than about 12-15 or so Sidesteps over the course of the entire battle, but it will vary depending on your Stone count and EI procs/Inhibit Defense luck.
- His magic attacks will do almost no damage, so you can freely use Poms, Refreshing/Rev Jams, Plum, Summons, and should just focus on Reflective Veils, especially when Mattias has his Defense lowered by your Summon, who you should keep Re-Summoning. Plums shouldn't usually be needed but might if you use a lot of Veils inefficiently.
- Use your BP smartly to keep up Sidesteps, focusing on boosted Reflective Veils. Sidestep x1 is always a safe thing to do on empty turns, and if you EI'd poms or jams, you can boost it possibly.
- Always Re-Summon to get your Inhibitor back, especially if you have a stack of Veils up or a lot of BP to use soon, but start trying to preserve your Inhibitor if he gets low (2 ish summons remaining). This should only happen if he gets hit by Mattias a lot but shouldn't happen much unless very unlucky.
- Mattias Mechanics:
- Mattias does Dialogue 1 at 30%, then at 50% activates Infernal Prayer (boosts magic so reflect does more damage but also boosts physical defense so Vets do less, can be countered with an Inhibit cast to bring him to normal defense, then Inhibit again for lowered defense), then at 70% damage taken, he does Dialogue 2 with Ophi.
- After he activates Infernal Prayer at his 50% HP mark, count 8k worth of damage on him (if he has Inhibit Defense and Infernal Prayer activated, he takes 3k per reflect, so you would only need 2 to land and then have 1 more set up) and time your BP to 5 with a full Inhibit Defense on him. Then do Vets x4, Vets x3 to finish him off (does 48k total). Even if you miscounted for a bit, when he returns, he does another Reflective Veil's worth of damage to himself or you can do any spare Ice/Light/whatever stones to finish.
- His Infernal Prayer buffs his physical attack to just one shot you straight out even from full HP btw, so don't let him get past your Sidesteps anymore. In addition, try to have 4-5 BP when you summon your Inhibitor, and it's ideal to summon the inhibitor before he does Infernal Prayer and have Defense down up already. IP buffs his defense, so we need to debuff him to neutral, then debuff him again to def down state. (But if he had Defense down already, Infernal Prayer takes him to neutral defense, so we just need one more defense down proc. This is mostly just timing though about when you think halfway will trigger and summoning the NPC just a bit prior to have Defense Down up in time)
- Do NOT miscount damage going into break though. If he summons adds (which he always does the turn after he returns from break), you won't have the resources to defeat them anymore and will probably lose (even if you defeat Mattias, you have to defeat the adds to win the battle, and you probably won't be able to, resource-wise). Mattias does come back with an elemental attack from break though, so you could reflect that plus throw a stone for extra chip damage to help narrow the gap if needed though.
- Otherwise, summon as much as possible and time your Reflective Veils smartly. This fight should be safe for the most part due to your armor setup.
- Note for worst case no Inhibits: If Inhibits don't land in time, you can count 24k of damage instead of 8k and then just do Vets x4 x3 to KO him without inhibits when he doesn't have Defense up. Note that at 25% critical health, he unlocks Black Thunder (he telegraphs it by entering boost mode), which is NOT nulled by your accessories, so you may need to block with Reflective Veil to survive (it can inflict Unconscious, which is basically an instant loss). Reflect it or break and finish him.
- Time ends when you end/skip the last cutscene just before Credits roll. GG.
