Soldier Beetle

Over 8 centuries ago Monster girls came to Earth by creating a temporary breach between dimensions.They were met with repulsion, violence and war.
Humans from nearly all countries throughout the world banded together to fight the otherworldly invaders, however they did not stand a single chance against the abilities and magic of monster girls, the war barely lasted 30 years and it only lasted that long because most monsters were pacifist.
Very few lands were actually conquered through violence, most were won through corruption, be it a corruption of the air, water or food. In some cases it was even the leaders of the land themselves that were corrupted, the famous surrender speech of of “Louis IX of France” who got incubized by a Shinobi is taught everywhere around the world as a land mile for coexistence between humans and monsters.

Eventually every nation accepted monsters and merged together to form The Great Empire of Teras, currently lead equally by the Demon Lord and a congress of men who gets elected every decade.
The Empire is a well respected institute that has the ultimate say in any important decision but countries still kept most of their independence and culture.

Even with the mostly peaceful and smooth integration of monster girls on Earth there were still some major crisis the world faced to reach the current state of coexistence, the most notorious one being the near extinction of humanity in 1774.
With great thinkers of the 17th and 18th centuries along with the media proving time and time again that monster girls are strictly superior spouses than human women, on top of the corruption of nearly all of the world's resources, it was only a matter of time before human women were on the verge of extinction.

It took the full cooperation of monsters and humans to create a safe place for pure humans to reside in, and thus the continent of Anthropolis was created right in the middle of the Pacific Oceans, it is a sanctuary protected by a seal created by the Demon Lord herself where absolutely no monsters or corruption can penetrate.

While humanity faced extinction, monsters and incubi were never at risk. February 21st of 1508 is a date every monster embedded in their mind as the day the first incubus was born from an Echidna's womb, from then on most species gained the ability to have sons.
This revolutionizing phenomenon was enough to keep the monsters safe but it was not enough to balance the population which is still to this day 1 man for every 5.2 monster girls.

All this lead to today where the world is divided in 2 with 800 million people living spread throughout The Great Empire of Teras (about 150 million of which being incubi) and with 120 millions humans living in Anthropolis both distinctly separated both in culture and in territory.

This story follows a young, peculiar man named Paul Lorence.
Born in Anthropolis the 18th of September 1989 he led a quiet and unfulfilling life along with his single father who got divorced by his mother because she felt that she could obtain a husband with higher societal value.
He moved to Teras 2 years ago, more particularly to New York, not because he wanted a monster girl wife, nor because of the higher quality of life, not even because of the basic income given to all citizens, but because he couldn't get a job in Anthropolis.
His distorted face and receding hairline along with him being obese and  lacking any social skills caused him to get rejected at every job interview he went to despite his having graduated with top scores from a prestigious computer science academy.

It's currently Friday the 8th of March 2014, the current most popular song is “3 wives is better than 2!” By the group “Silver Siren Triplets”, the latest innovation is a spell that allows you to interact with your subconscious, and the latest trending news is that of the basic income increasing from $496,6 to $500.

Paul slowly walked to the shopmart 2 streets down from his office, both of those streets were highly frequented and any man passing them was sure to be met by at least a few monster girls courting them.
This was the case for Paul too, despite being called disgusting and creepy by all human women he ever tried to interact with back in Anthropolis, in New York every monster girl found him attractive to a certain extent just for being a man, and the fact that he was one of the rare pure human in the city only added to his particular charm.

He had just finished his 38 hours work shift for the week, most people only worked about 10 hours every week to complement their basic income, but he felt that he needed the extra $6400 his salary brought him even though he despised his job for being boring, mundane, repetitive, tiring and for having dozens of monster girls sexually harassing him on a daily basis on the way to work, during work and on the way home too.

He wobbled his way inside in the huge ultramarket and walked straight towards the scooters to his right that were meant for legless species such as Slimes and Giant Slugs.
As usual the Soldier Beetle security guard greeted him with a slight nod which he, as usual, ignored.
The Soldier Beetle’s appearance was fairly unusual for her species; She was wearing a full black suit two tones darker than her chitinous parts, her matte dark shell and long black hair contrasted with her pale skin, her insectile black eyes gave her otherwise gentle face a mysterious look. She was of the shield kind, the weapon she grew from her exoskeleton was flat and round, meant for defensive purposes.
Strangely enough that Soldier Beetle only ever greeted him and no one else, not even her coworkers and hierarchical superiors, a fact that did not seem to mark him in any way.

Riding on one of the shop's scooter, he head directly to the “novelty” section, a section that featured mostly imported items from Anthropolis ranging from foods, to charms, to books, etc...
All these items were sold at ridiculous prices because of how any vehicle shipping from Anthropolis to Teras cannot come back to Anthropolis due to the seal which only allows exits from the continent, not only that but most items from Anthropolis naturally costed more because without magic and mamono mana their production was a much more difficult and long process than it was for any monster items, this was especially striking in food items.

Paul picked a few boxes of cereals, a dozen packs of cookies, a couple of candy bags, 5 pounds of bacon, 5 pounds of grounded beef, 3 loafs of bread, 15 pounds of fake cheese and 20 liters of soda for a total of $1624,72. He did not pick these items out of nostalgia for his home country, nor did he pick them for a special event, he had been picking this same amount, these same brands, these same exact products every single week for the last 8 years and moving to Teras did not change his diet in any fashion.

Every month his food bill came up to exactly $6498,88 while the typical bill of a New York citizen was about $236 and consisted of various monster products which were not only cheaper and tastier but also had great health benefits and magical properties. During his 2 years in New York he did not try a single monster food product, this explained why he was still a pure human even after living there for so long, although showering in the city's water and breathing the air would eventually incubize that would take at the very least a full decade.

Having filled his basket to the brim, he rotated his scooter, bumping on one of the alley's shelves multiple times in the process, and rolled towards the cashiers before being stopped by a group of 5 young men.
They were all unnaturally handsome, a trait synonym with men from Anthropolis who moved to Teras and incubized for the sake of improving their looks, strength and health.

The leader, a tall, blond young man wearing an open button-up t-shirt revealing his abdominal walked forward and put his foot on the scooter, he stared at Paul and his cart for a long 30 seconds before sweeping the scooter off the floor, causing Paul and his groceries to violently spill on the ivory tiles.

The 5 men then took turns questioning Paul's sanity and intelligence, they also pointed out how Paul's looks were terrible and how he was endangering his health by being overweight to that extent, they then lectured him on how ridiculous his grocery choices were and how he'd be much happier if he incubized just like they did.

During all this scene, Paul did not utter a single word, he entered the fetal position (or the closest position to it that his protruding stomach allowed him to enter) and cried. This went on for nearly 6 minutes before the Soldier Beetle security guard intervened and carried off all 5 men and threw them out of the building in a swift manner. She then helped Paul get back on his feet along with the scooter and gathered all his groceries, replacing all the items that were damaged with new ones.

Paul wiped off his tears and snot on his sleeve, mounted  on the scooter and pushed the pedal to roll towards the cashiers but the Soldier Beetle was preventing it from budging by holding the scooter's back handle.
He angrily asked her what was she doing and said that he needed to go because he felt very hungry, these were the first words he had ever spoken to her despite their weekly interaction these last 2 years.
The Soldier Beetle couldn't help but put up a small smile upon hearing his voice for the first time.

She dialed her manager on her beeper and a minute later the manager flew to the Soldier Beetle's location, she was a Succubus wearing a custom red suit that allowed her free movement of her wings, and had a hole in her skirt for her tail to go through.
The Succubus questioned the Soldier Beetle on the situation, she addressed the Soldier Beetle as “Natalia”.
Natalia did not answer with words but she did make gestures to explain the whole ordeal.
The manager and Natalia talked this way for a few minutes, before the manager told the security guard to go back to her post while she handled the rest.
Natalia didn't budge despite her superior's order to do so, the Succubus looked at her for a moment with a questioning expression, Natalia stared back at her with determination, and after a moment of hesitation a wide smile spread on the Succubus' face as if she realized something.
Paul was mindlessly pressing the scooter's pedal the whole time, completely obvious of his surroundings.

The manager had to use some of her charm abilities to captivate his attention and calm him down.
She apologized for what happened and promised that the 5 men will be banned from the shop permanently, she added that her coworker, who is still single, generously offered to pay for his groceries as an apology for reacting to the situation so late.
Upon hearing this, Paul's face lightened up, Natalia released her grasp and looked at him while blushing. The Succubus asked if there was anything else she could do to satisfy him. He did not answer, instead he made an awkward U-turn and headed towards the novelty section again. He picked as many of his usual items as he could handle by putting them on top of his stomach, in his armpits, under his legs, between his teeth, etc...

He then made yet another awkward U-Turn, dropping some of what he just grabbed in the process and rolled to the cashiers without a single word to the manager or the security guard.

Natalia scuttled her way to Paul As a male cashier was scanning his items, she nervously shuffled around while looking at the fat man who didn't pay her any attention while loudly breathing with his mouth open.
The total came up to $2397,54, Natalia showed her credit card to the cashier as a sign that she will pay in his stead, he gave her surprised look and handed her the keyboard to input her code, her hand was shaking causing her to enter the wrong code. Paul made a big sigh and tapped his fingers on the one of the cereal box while she struggled to input her code correctly.

The payment was accepted shortly after and Natalia tried to pack Paul's groceries but he rudely insisted on the cashier doing it. She watched in confusion as the cashier advised Paul to use the shop's delivery system to which the obese man replied that he tried it but that their website took too long to load.
The cashier carefully placed Paul's grocery bags in the cart's basket and wished him a happy evening, he replied by grunting and driving away.

Paul badly parked the scooter, grabbed his groceries and wobbled out of the shop and onto the street while mumbling about how terrible his day was.
Natalia waved him goodbye until he was completely out of her sight.
As soon as she was done waving her hand, the Succubus manager flew towards her.
She said to her in the most serious tone that this fat man who she is trying to court does not speak her subtle language of love, and that she should just corner him into the novelty section and thoroughly rape him if she truly wants him to love her back.
The Soldier Beetle did not reply, nor did she make any facial expression, she blankly stared at her superior without blinking.
The Succubus then flew away after telling Natalia to consider what she just told him for the next time the fat man comes shopping.
