  1. Hello /r/Dota2 your Dota Psychologist is here to help you work through the feelings of loss and constant grief that waiting for patch 7.07 is bringing.
  2. Today I would like to run through the seven stages of grief and loss with you and how it applies to you yourself as a Dota 2 community member.
  3. Without further ado, I will now begin the psycho-analysis of /r/Dota2 as it processes its grief and anguish over news of the delay
  4. Stage 1: Shock & Denial
  5.
  6. In this stage the shock of learning that 7.07 will release next month is sudden and painful. Often it is so great that the average /r/Dota2 reader will experience a numbed reaction to the news that they have to wait yet another month before the game is updated. This shock is protection from emotional overload and may last the average user several days depending on how much this news affects them.
  7. Stage 2: Pain & Guilt
  8.
  9. As the initial shock and disbelief of the initial news of the delay wears off it is replaced with immense pain and suffering that is indescribable and is nigh unbearable. The average user might find themselves posting the common "X hero is cancer" or "I'm leaving Dota 2" post in order to escape this pain. This behavior is unhealthy and it is strongly recommended that one deal with this pain in full rather than using conventional methods in order to try and escape from the pain.
  10. Stage 3: Anger & Bargaining
  11.
  12. Frustration and pain wanes, and anger now freshly erupts as posts decreeing that "X hero is OP, please nerf" or other salt filled threads start to emerge in /new. Please try to control this stage as permanent damage to your relationships with the users on /r/Dota2 might occur as a direct result of your unfiltered rage. You might question Icefrog and ask "Why me, why do I have to play against Venomancer, Necrophos, Lich, and Viper in every single match?" and you may even begin to try and bargain with the Frozen Toad leading to inevitable "pls mr. lizard" threads. Keep in mind that this stage is perfectly natural and is experienced by many.
  13. Stage 4: Depression, Reflection, Loneliness
  14.
  15. As the rage subsides, and the salt flow starts to slow down, a new feeling of dread and woe begins to overtake the user as they realize that they have to wait longer for the new game-play patch to be released by Valve. During this stage the average user begins to realize the true magnitude of the wait and it starts to pry at their very soul. It is advisable to seek help immediately if you have thoughts about trying to recreate a blood stone in real life and utilize its active ability.
  16. Stage 5: The Upward Turn
  17.
  18. As the user begins to adjust their play style to deal with the commonly picked "cancer heroes" and starts to sort out their psyche, they begin to once again have fun playing the video game known as Dota 2. The depression and feeling of existential dread begins to lighten and starts to disappear from the user's life.
  19. Stage 6: Reconstruction & Working Through
  20.
  21. As you become more functional, and less and less depressed, your love for Dota 2 once again becomes apparent in the way you play and your actions. You begin to have a positive mental attitude again in your pubs and start to adjust to the wait by trying new strategies out or trying heroes that you normally would never play. The daily "RTZ did X and Y" or "50/50 EE" posts appear once more.
  22. Stage 7: Acceptance & Hope
  23.
  24. The veil lifts, and the patch draws nearer with every passing second, minute, hour and day. You start to brighten up again and become enthusiastic about the game again. In this stage you realize that perhaps Valve was right to delay the update for a month and work out all of the bugs that are sure to be occurring right now before releasing it. You begin to playfully shitpost once more and start making dank Dota 2 related memes to post on /r/Dota2.
  25. Well this has been a brief psycho-analysis on the seven stages of grief that /r/Dota2 users usually go through before a huge patch is released. I hope this has given you an insight into the psyche of the average user and I hope that this has helped us to process our feelings and emotions about the patch. Have a blessed rest of your day/night and I wish you all the best!
  26. On a parting note, I must also add: "Please Mr. Lizard"
