Glögg

Ingredients

  • 5 liters of svagdricka (Wikipedia). This can be emulated by mixing dark beer and lemonade.
  • 5 raw potatoes, peeled and sliced.
  • 50 g of regular baker's yeast (not dried).
  • 2.5 kg of granulated sugar.
  • 500 g of raisins.
  • 1 bag (around 15 g) of whole cloves.
  • 1 bag (around 20 g) of cardamom seeds.
  • 5 cm of fresh ginger.
  • 1 cinnamon stick.

Equipment

  • One clean 10+ liter bucket (plastic works fine).
  • Clean bottles.
  • Plastic film.
  • (Optional) Siphon.

Steps

Step 1

Mix all ingredients together in the bucket.

Step 2

Cover the bucket with plastic film and make small air holes in the film.

Step 3

Let the bucket rest in room temperature for 3-6 weeks.

Step 4

Carefully pour into a jug or use a siphon to avoid the sediment that has formed at the bottom. You can also use a strainer while pouring.

Step 5

Fill the bottles. The bottles can be stored for a couple of years.

Step 6

Heat up and serve with raisins and scalloped almonds. Enjoy!
