Element.io notes

Aka matrix.org. Element is a decentralized server with full end-to-end encryption.

1. Main site is https://app.element.io. Sign up there. To register, email is optional, phone number is not needed.
2. Element is open source and can be hosted on matrix.org at no cost. See https://element.io/open-source
3. Use Element with a browser or get the app here: https://element.io/get-started It's for Windows, MacOS, IOS and Android. 1/30/2021 Element app has been suspended from Google Play for supporting free speech. https://element.io/blog/element-on-google-play-store/ 1/31/2021 App has been restored.
   1. Element Android app, a bit older: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/im.vector.app/ Use this until the Google Play issue is resolved.

Notes on settings

These settings are if you are using a browser to access app.element.io.

1. You can change the font size of the stuff you see in Settings. In the upper left of the screen click your username, then All Settings. ON the left of the popup window click Appearance. Adjust the font size there.

1. To mention someone, type their name, when their name pops up above the input chat line, hit tab to select it, not enter.
