  16. At the end of November, AK EUROPA, the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) and the ÖGB Europabüro jointly invited guests to the “ASSESS TiSA” Workshop. Experts associated with the European Commission, the European Parliament, NGOs, trade unions and science, discussed with great interest the question as to how to assess the official interpretations on the economic benefits of TiSA, the controversial international Trade in Services Agreement.
  17.
  18. Even though the official negotiations on the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) are currently on hold, in view of the standstill of the negotiations, however, the questionable foundations of the economic impact assessments on TiSA have increasingly become the focus of attention. Against the background of the official “Sustainability Impact Assessment” (in short: SIA) of the European Commission - carried out by ECORYS - AK Wien commissioned the study “Assess TiSA“ from the Austrian Research Foundation for International Development (ÖFSE), which above all also critically examines the official economic interpretations. The Workshop offered the opportunity to discuss the interim results of their research in more detail with the authors of the study.

  20. The Council of Canadians has highlighted that TiSA would:
  21. 1- be a block on remunicipalizing water and sanitation services
  22. 2- promote the deregulation of financial services
  23. 3- be an obstacle to renewable energy, deregulate the energy services and mining sectors
  24. 4- hurt privacy and migrant rights
  25. 5- promote the offshoring of health care services
  26.
  27. While the Global Affairs website says "Canada holds a significant interest in the TISA negotiations", the Council of Canadians calls on the Trudeau government to immediately withdraw from TiSA talks.
