  1. Pokémon Red Any% Glitchless F.A.Q.
  2.
  3. Q: What are you trying to accomplish?
  4. A: I am trying to defeat every trainer in the game.
  5.
  6. Q: What is the Best Time (BT) in this category?
  7. A: Iono.
  8.
  9. Q: What is your current Personal Best (PB)?
  10. A: N/A
  11.
  12. Q: What is your goal?
  13. A: To finish.
  14.
  15. Q: How are you streaming/recording your runs?
  16. A: I use the following programs:
  17. > Twitch streaming: OBS Studio
  18. > Game-only capture: vMix
  19. > Timer: LiveSplit
  20. I use the following hardware:
  21. > Capture card: GV-USB2
  22. > Console: GameCube w/ Game Boy Player + Game Boy Interface
  23. > Controller: Wii-U Smash Controller
  24.
  25. Q: Why Red version? Why not Blue?
  26. A: Red is overall faster due to can manipulation.
  27.
  28. Q: Manipulations?
  29. A: Since we now measure runs by real time, we are able to save and quit to perform manipulations. We manipulate a perfect Nidoran and perfect trash cans in Surge's gym.
  30.
  31. Q: Why do you name everything "A"?
  32. A: Naming commonly seen names one character saves frames throughout the entirety of the run. A is just the fastest character to select.
  33.
  34. Q: Which starter Pokémon do you select?
  35. A: I select Squirtle. Squirtle is the fastest choice to defeat Brock on account of learning Bubble at level 8.
  36.
  37. Q: Why do you keep restarting the whole run?
  38. A: I either had a bad start, failed a manipulation, or died.
  39.
  40. Q: Your main Pokemon isn't your starter?
  41. A: No. This run uses Nidoran/Nidorino/Nidoking. While Squirtle can complete a run, and others as well, Nidoking has a nice overall set of stats and learns valuable moves to beat the game quickly.
  42.
  43. Q: What are the stats you want for Nidoran?
  44. A: We manipulate the Nidoran. Nidoran will have 13 DV HP, 15 DV attack, 15 DV defense, 14 DV speed and 15 DV special.
  45.
  46. Q: What are DVs?
  47. A: DV stands for determinant value. Each Pokemon has a DV ranging from 0 to 15 for each stat. The higher the DV, the higher the growth rate for that particular stat.
  48.
  49. Q: Why do you catch [insert Pokémon here]?
  50. A: Here is a basic rundown of the entire team:
  51. > Squirtle - Main Pokémon until after Brock. Strength and Surf slave.
  52. > Nidoran/Nidorino/Nidoking - Main Pokémon after Brock.
  53. > Pidgey/Spearow - Fly slave.
  54. > Paras - Cut and Dig slave.
  55.
  56. Q: Why do you purposely take damage?/What is "redbar"?
  57. A: Redbar is when you are at less than 20.833% health; a warning jingle plays which overwrites other sounds, such as cries and level-up jingles, saving tons of time throughout a run. While it is a risky strat, it pays dividends when it is successful. You will see me try to get it on Route 3, Nugget Bridge, off of Misty, off of S.S. Anne Rival or Surge and try to maintain it for a vast majority of the game from there on out.
  58.
  59. Q: What are the hardest fights in Red?
  60. A: Rival 1.
