  4. Edit 2016.04.19: Debunked, mostly (Idea 2 from big to small was correct as she doesn't return to small doll phase). Would have loved to see one of these ideas, but the fight is still pretty cool. Including Dancing Calcabrina during the Calca and Brina doll phase is totally awesome, but wish they would have either kept it going into the Calcabrina boss fight or gone to FFIV's boss battle music. Oh well.

  7. When the 3.2 patch trailer dropped for Final Fantasy XIV, we were introduced to the final boss of The Antitower, Calcabrina. For those who are unaware, Calcabrina was a boss from Final Fantasy IV, who you faced shortly after arriving in the underground at the Dwarven Castle. The original battle started with fighting 3 Calca and 3 Brina dolls, who could, if one set or the other was completely defeated, merge into the giant Calcabrina. If you failed to defeat Calcabrina fast enough, the boss would return back into the 6 smaller dolls.

  9. So how will the fight work in Final Fantasy XIV? While it would be interesting if it followed the same mechanic, the trailer itself seems to debunk this, as we see the 6 dolls jump into the center of the room to merge into Calcabrina. So how will this work?

  11. From Calca & Brina to Calcabrina

  13. Idea #1: Overall HP Percentage
  14. The game will check to see if the combined HP of the 6 dolls hits a certain percent before causing the merge.

  16. Idea #2: Death of One
  17. If one of the dolls hits 0 HP, the merge will immediately occur.

  19. At either of these points, likely Calcabrina will have the HP of all the dolls combined as they stand.

  21. From Calcabrina to Calca & Brina

  23. Idea #1: Likely this will be a timer base, that after a certain length of time, Calcabrina will return back to Calca & Brina. After this, I suspect that if this mechanic occurs, the 6 dolls will have an averaged HP total. So if Calcabrina had 60,000 HP, each doll would have 10,000 HP.

  25. Idea #2: There may also be no return to small doll phase. This could avoid an potential issue where you kill 1 doll when they're all low HP (as explained by Idea #1).

  28. Overall, I think this will be a fun and hopefully creepy fight. Here's hoping that they actually use Dancing Calcabrina instead of the normal Heavensward Dungeon Final Boss music. We shall see on February 23rd! Battle on, fellow Warriors of Light!
