  1. Prompted by the discussion of CAP 1v1's inclusion in CAPPL and in the Tournament Queue, the metagame mods discussed how we want CAP 1v1 to continue because it's having a bit of an identity crisis right now.
  2.
  3. There have been three types of "CAP 1v1" floating around:
  4. A) 1v1 with only CAPs, randomized (implemented on PS!)
  5. B) 1v1 with only CAPs, unrandomized (proposed for CAPPL / Metagame Queue)
  6. C) 1v1 with CAPs included, unrandomized (best mirrors how the CAP Metagame is OU with CAPs included and far less limited than the former two kinds of CAP 1v1)
  7.
  8. Long story short, cbrevan talked to Felucia about this, as well as a CAP 1v1 council that's operated more out of 1v1 than out of CAP. Jho pointed out that teambuilding is where the grand majority of the 1v1 skill comes into play, so it's unlikely that Option A will see any long-term success. Randomized CAP 1v1 is full of coinflips that are completely uncontrollable due to players’ inability to construct their own teams. Also, the original intention of CAP 1v1 was to be a showcase for CAPs, but because 1v1 sets are inherently different from CAP Metagame sets, the CAPs are not being properly introduced. Our solution for this is to instead make a CAP Battle Factoryformat, which would more effectively showcase CAPs to new users, as it can be modeled off of the CAP Metagame.
  9.
  10. We think Option B suffers from a lack of diversity due to there being just 28 fully evolved options plus mostly inferior pre-evolutions, and we're skeptical of its long-term success compared with Option C. However, the CAP 1v1 council pointed out how they already have resources built for Option B, and the smaller metagame size will be easier to manage for them.
  11.
  12. Thus, while CAP 1v1 is still relatively new and we have the chance to establish it properly, we're asking that CAP 1v1 be retooled to be Option B: "1v1 with only CAPs, unrandomized.” I know you put in a lot of time and effort into making the randomized CAP 1v1 format, but just because we’re asking you to retool the format doesn’t mean that your efforts were in vain. It’s launched a CAP OM that’s seen much more traction than others we’ve seen, and it’s started to bridge the CAP community with the 1v1 community! We just think that it can grow the best as an unrandomized format. We also think that CAP Battle Factory will be a sufficient and better replacement to the randomized CAP 1v1 format implemented on PS right now.
