48. Batman works desperately to find a bomb planted by the Joker while Amanda Waller hires her newly formed Suicide Squad to break into Arkham Asylum to recover vital information stolen by the Riddler.
 49. In Gotham City, the Riddler has secret information on the top secret Task Force X that he threatens to make public, but before Amanda Waller can have him killed, he is captured by Batman. Now with Riddler imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, Amanda Waller reassembles the Suicide Squad of captured supervillains with the mission to infiltrate the forensic mental hospital to retrieve Riddler's information. Led by Deadshot, this black ops team makes their way into the facility, only to face complications from within and without the team with secret agendas and double crosses all around. Meanwhile, Batman has his own concerns with an urgent search for The Joker's deadly bomb that threatens Gotham City. Eventually, all these players converge on Arkham Asylum for a showdown that few are going to escape alive.
 50. I liked the live action movie by David Ayers with Will Smith and Margo Robbie but this animated one, released 2 years before the live action one is much better. What makes this one better then the Ayer's one is the great writing. They simply did a better job at putting together a strong story then Ayers did. With the Ayers movie it felt like they had good characters but never were able to make the story come together. This movie succeeds at that tremendously. This is a movie that is able to somehow make the riddler and the joker(my two favorite batman villains) both be the main villain and make it work perfectly. It was a cool idea making the riddler be the reason why Waller needs the squad. Also I love that the actor from criminal minds who plays Spencer Reid is voicing the riddler. Perfect casting. Unlike the live action one the squad is shown to be a top secrete off the books covert assignment, which is the way the squad is suppose to be. Not that we need them to protect us from a evil superman. The film wastes no time and gets right into it. They do a great job at setting up the riddler and Waller then we get a quick and nice introduction to the squad. Their mission is simple and it has a nice plot twist that makes sense and makes riddler more important to the plot. The film also does a good job at balancing it's characters, with the live action movie it kind of felt like the deadshot and Harley Quinn show while the other characters were sideline. This film showcases everyone nicely and does this without giving us a whole lot of(if any) backstory for the characters. The movie has a nice heist element as we seem them try to break into Arkham. Something that was lacking in the live action one. Also one of my problems with the Ayers movie was that the villains weren't villainous enough but here we see them turn against each other and are never really depicted as being heroes. I also like the overall more edge this movie has compare to the Ayers movie. Another problem I had with the Ayers movie was the lack of Joker. However in this movie we get to see much more joker and I like how he works in the movie. He's not the main focus but still important to the story. I like how this movie never really gives us an official main villain. It's basically just a movie with a bunch of bad guys and batman in the middle of everything but it's woven together so nicely it never feels convoluted. We also get cameos by other batman villains. Also I really like this interpretation of Harley Quinn, Hayden Welch voice is great I think they captured her personality perfectly. I also like Troy Baker as the Joker. I honestly thought it was Mark Hammil doing the voice. I also love the animation it almost felt like a live action movie. One of my favorites from D.C. animation!
 51. Batman is awesome. The Batman Arkham Asylum games are awesome. Kevin Conroy doing the voice of Batman is awesome and, finally, DC is very awesome at making animated films about their comics and their characters so, it is no surprise, "Batman: Assault on Arkham" is awesome.

Like all DC animated features, the film features great animation and killer action that doesn't shy away from getting dark, gritty and hardcore (they don't fear adding a little blood here and there). Additionally, the film has great voice acting with some highlights including John DiMaggio doing his thing and being very talented, Neal McDonough really capturing the character of Deadshot and getting the best Batman in the business to return; Kevin Conroy! Finally, the film has a great story that is capable of making Batman a side-character without feeling like he's being pushed out of the spotlight. It was just really cool to see the Suicide Squad get a animated film about them.

However, as great as this film is in with most of its elements, I still had a few issues with it. Some complaints are minor like I wanted Tara Strong to return as Harley Quinn but Hynden Walch is very good in the role. Also, I felt like Troy Baker was trying too hard to mimic Mark Hamill's trademark Joker voice but, overall, these complaints weren't entertainment killers. The one thing I really disliked about the film was the fact that the production was obsessed with getting the female characters nude in the film.

While having a mature storyline isn't a bad thing, the problem comes from the fact that some people think that hinting at female nudity somehow means maturity. While there was a moment where nakedness made sense (like when two characters were about to have a night of sweaty sex), other times it felt completely superfluous and like the director was a 13 year old boy who just kept yelling at the animators, "Now make them get naked!" It feels über-sexist and starts to get very unnecessary when you realize how pathetic the attempts at getting to see these character in a nearly nude state become and understand that you are just watching the writers' and animators' sexual fantasies being played out for their enjoyment and your money.

The needless nudity aside, everything else about the film is great and is just another example of how DC can really make great animated films.

Hey there! Feel like reading more of my rants, ramblings, geek references, bad jokes, and other movie reviews (like a more in-depth look at "Batman: Assault on Arkham" and other films with Batman in them)? 53. Yes. It is meant to serve as a sequel to Arkham Origins, the game released before the video, and a prequel to Arkham Asylum, the first in the series. The producers were given access to the character and location models from the game in order to design the movie. They worked with the creators of the game to ensure continuity with the series, so they knew which characters they could use and kill without interfering with the future of the game series. a5c7b9f00b
