You place a palm on the lock and will some of your magical energy inside it, carefully manipulating the metal of the lock so that it opens as it normally would if a key was placed within it. There's a loud clunk as the lock is undone. While you could just have overloaded it with magical energy and blown the lock into pieces, that's probably not the best first experience for somebody as superstitious as Abby for magecraft.
