  3.
  4. Q: What are you trying to do?
  5. A: Beat Pokemon Yellow as quickly as possible using Pikachu as the main Pokemon.
  6.
  7. Q: What are you playing on?
  8. A: GambatteSpeedrun, an accurate emulator for Gen 1-2 Pokemon games.
  9.
  10. Q: What is the world record?
  11. A: 2:50:57 by me. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiNepHrnAp8
  12.
  13. Q: Is there any RNG manipulation?
  14. A: Thankfully no. Manipulating Pikachu requires clearing dozens of text boxes perfectly, including several 1-frame windows. Given that, I decided to do this run without any manipulation, even though manipulating certain encounters might be worth it. This allows me to directly compete against the world record run, which was done before manip was discovered.
  15.
  16. Q: Is Pikachu faster than Nidoking?
  17. A: The final fight involves taking 2 intentional deaths with animations turned on. What do you think?
  18.
  19. Q: What's Pikachu's final moveset?
  20. A: Thunderbolt, Body Slam, Mimic and Seismic Toss.
  21.
  22. Q: What are the hardest fights for Pikachu?
  23. A: The final fight against your rival is easily the hardest one. The only way to consistently beat his lead Sandslash is to use Seismic Toss, die to Earthquake and Revive, use Seismic Toss, die and Revive again, and then use Seismic Toss a third time. From there, you're only about 60% likely to survive the rest of the fight, and dying means resetting to your save before the fight and slowly killing Sandslash again.
  24.
  25. There's no shortage of other hard fights. Blaine hits hard with all of his Pokemon, and you have to 2HKO each of them. Giovanni 2's Dugtrio is kills you with a critical EQ and Dig, he has a 23.5% chance to crit, and he hits you twice on average. Both Silph Rival and Viridian Rival have a lead Sandslash that requires 3 Seismic Tosses just as Champion's does, and they can 2HKO you with Slash + another attack. Surge's Raichu has random AI, but he can 2HKO you with several combinations of attacks.
  26.
  27. Q: How do you beat Brock?
  28. A: Growl, Tail Whip, Quick Attack (which you learn at Level 11) and Potions. Brock can't do major damage or heal his Pokemon, so it's easier than you'd think.
  29.
  30. Q: What route are you using?
