- I woke up on cold ground. I remember a dream. Strange lights, a strange voice I couldn't understand. Then here, in the middle of the woods. Slowly I got to my feet. The moon was full, so I could see that I was just wearing my same clothes I went to bed in. I didn't know anything about forests, so I couldnt tell if I was still in Michigan. I took a few timid steps in one direction, then a few more in another. Then I heard voices.
- I began to run. Initially I caught myself. I was clearly lost, so it was stupid to run from these people. However, fear got the better of me, because they weren't yelling my name. I ran opposite the sound, but it kept getting closer. Branches and roots tore at my pajamas, eventually giving me tons of tiny cuts on my body, but I still ran on.
- I could make out what the voices were saying now "find the Dauphin! Where is he? I think I see him!" Eventually I could see the light of flashlights illuminate the woods in front of me. I gave it one last sprint, but I tripped and fell.
- When I turned around, the light of the flashlight blinded me completely. "He's safe!" one of the voices behind the light proclaimed. I could feel hands slip under my armpits, and by instinct I began to kick into open air. The owner of the arms then smothered me.
- "Hush now Dauphin, let us go back to town and tend to your wounds."
- I couldn't believe what was happening, so I fainted as the mysterious voice carried me away.
