- “No! I don’t want to hear it!” Slappy wailed. He jammed the earbuds back into his ears. “No! You can’t do this! Don’t hurt me, Father. Don’t put me to sleep.”
- Slappy rushed forward. But Darkwell shoved him away. And then the sorcerer called out the secret words in reverse:
- “Karrano Molonu Loma Odonna Marri Karru!”

- Slappy’s eyes closed. His legs fell limp, and he slumped facedown onto the grass.
- He didn’t move.
- The wind swirled harder, howling through the trees. Clouds floated over the moon, sending heavy black shadows over the grass.

- Then he vanished in another puff of black smoke.

- He gazed at the shadowy lawns. There was no one in sight.
- He stretched both arms above his head. Then he lowered his hands and pulled the earbuds from his ears.
- Haha! His plan had worked!
- You don’t know everything, Father! The spell doesn’t work if I can’t hear it!
- Slappy chuckled. “Darkwell never was a very good sorcerer!”
